Anyone else skeptical about the loadout system in D2?

From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations. Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button. This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

There will be some sort of compromise. Something along the lines of.... Reducing/removing Synthesis Cooldown. Increased ammo drop rates. No ammo loss when switching weapons using percentages to translate different carrying capacities of different weapon types. Damage dealing Supers get considerable damage buffs. Benefits such as increased ally damage akin to Weapons of Light, Tethers and Viking/ToF get considerable buffs. Considerable damage buffs to Snipers, Fusions, and Shotguns. Raid Bosses particularly require more than just conventional/raw DPS. For all we know we could be shooting Ghaul with anti aircraft weapons rather than what we have equipped. Bosses will be less spongey. Removal/push back enrage timers. Long shot: Every Fusion Rifle works like Sleeper Simulant.

    • Sniper and Shogun are powerful ........ because the Primary weapon time to kill in Destiny 2 is a lot slower. No more 3 burst kills. Looks like 4-5 minimum.

    • I feel they were a little extra with the recoil patterns of assault rifles. As they are now and how they looked in the trailer the recoil was so unrealistically great

    • Posted this below, but going to repost it as its own reply to the main thread. Honestly, I don't see why we have to all fight when we can make ONE system that accomodates everybody's needs and desires.
@j8p8w8 Here's a good compromise: Separate presets for PVE and PVP. PVE: can be 1 of two systems: 1) The D1 system or 2) The D2 system with a 4th slot for an ADDITIONAL power weapon - with weapon switching mapped to the D pad PVP: can just use the new loadout system. Option #2 is the best choice because it accommodates people like me who rotate through their special/heavy regularly and people like Sols who want to use two primaries. And in PVP, they get what they want: forced primary vs. primary encounters. I don't see how ANYONE can complain about that.
If they give us FOUR weapon slots in PVE (2 primary, 2 power weapons) EVERYONE gets to use whatever combination they want. We carry more firepower with us in PVE, and everyone is happy. Separate preset loadout for PVP = PVPers get what they want. Forced primary v. primary encounters. Not sure why it has to be either-or when Bungie still has the ability to make changes, tweaks, and adjustments to the game and can make a system that separates PVE from PVP AND accommodates players preferred loadouts.

    • Scout Rifles can do significant boss dps damage, it just takes a few more shots is all and follow up with your rocket launcher or machine gun and your good as gold, sugar. Let's give the new gun system catagory roll a whirl and hey, at least it's something new!!!!!

      • Definitely interested to see how this will play out in the game period. It'll be change going from what have known for 3 years to something so different. May be awesome, might suck balls. We'll just have to play and see if we like it. Unlike a lot people, I don't know for FACT how these will adjusted or assigned in actual gameplay. Should be interesting for crucible. But just like in TTK, they made snipers more relevant than rocket launchers. In vanilla Destiny, rocket launchers were the thing, TTK it was snipers, ROI it sort of went back to rocket launchers.

      • There are no longer Machine Guns in Destiny. Say goodbye. Its the only weapon type they did not bring to D2.

        • We'll have to wait and see exactly how it works but this could mean that bosses will be weaker since we would be expected to use our primaries on them. This could also mean that special weapons (sniper, shotguns) will be as strong as a rocket of MG.

        • It is a change that I have mixed feelings about. On one hand, the lack of a sniper/shotty etc. and another heavy weapon is going to feel weird - particularly for raids and similar encounters. On the other hand, I think that having two primaries is a good thing, as it will offer great weapon versatility for both PvP and PvE. It might also mean that Bungie moves away from purely sponge, DPS boss design, which I'm sure some people feel differently about but I think it would be more interesting myself.

        • Power weapons are going to be very powerful. Energy weapons will do double damage in the right situations. We have 6 options in every slot. It looks like you don't lose ammo in the energy slot so you can actively swap weapons without penalty. I think the game will be much more active moment to moment and PVE might actually be more challenging and fun as a result. Seems like people can have all types of loadouts they prefer for all activities. I think these changes will promote a lot of play styles, actually.

        • As long as they buff fusion rifle, shotgun, and sniper rifle damage to compete with rocket launchers, LMG's, and grenade launchers, I'll be fine.

          • They would have to be revamping the whole dps model. For one, not losing ammo on changing power weapons.

          • Think of the elemental weapons as specials. They do significant more damage to guardians in super and AI. It's just now you run a scout and hand cannon instead of sniper and handcannon, auto/ pulse ect. If you're a good sniper you can still snipe for a 1hk and significantly more ammo than a rock launcher. It's just now everyone won't running around with a 1hk weapon the entire game.

          • I only ever used a hand cannon or scout rifle anyway. Only used a sniper on bosses. Shotguns were only relevant for a short period of time. My heavy wasn't used very often except vanilla/Dark below when running nightfall. I.e. gjallarhorn.

          • I'm interested to see how it plays out. Honestly I've never needed both a sniper AND a heavy when dealing with bosses in PvE. I mean if you really think about it, most people usually only use one or the other during a boss fight.

            • No it just means people will likely have roles in specific circumstances. Then they can change it up for the next encounter.

            • For PvE it can fix the elemental primaries problem, however I think one of two things will need to happen to make the game feel smooth. Either enemies have much lower health in PvE, or kinetic and power weapons deal more damage than primaries now. If either of those happens I'm sure PvE will be just fine.

            • It really seems that Bungie are continually experimenting with ideas that most would agree are dumb. I think they don't know what they are doing I'm I'm going to predict they are going to have backlash on release or during the beta.

            • I'm expecting a damage overhaul for snipers and shotguns. I imagine they'll also make different power weapons more situationally useful than just DPS machines because that's all heavy weapons are used as now.
