From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations.
Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button.
This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

Fusions, shotguns and snipers will all have more ammo than the traditional heavies. Doesn't necessarily address what you are worried about, but it provides some kind of solution to the problem nonetheless.

I understand the sentiment, but I think I can understand the vision that Bungie is working towards with the loadout. Our current loadout is setup with a primary weapon - his is and should be the main weapon for our engagements, a special weapons - for special situations such as when a particular type of enemy appears, or the situation calls for it, and a heavy weapon - for great damage. Now, I can't speak for Bungie, but if you look at the ability that snipers can give you, you will see how strong it is in comparison to primaries. So with Destiny 2, Bungie are looking closely at the loadout and each specific slot: Primary - your main method of engagement Energy - specifically the main difference between this slot and the primary slot is the elemental damage. This is the weapon you use for the specific encounters where enemies have elemental shields and you need to do combat in that specific way. Power - In this slot you have weapons that have greater power (obviously) and can give you an advantage on the field against your enemies. The fact that Energy weapons are in essence primary weapons actually gives you various options to modify your primary game, the main method that you will go through combat situations. In PvP you aren't going to be frustrating to other players, and in PvE enemies won't be so easy to defeat. On the other hand, you won't be locked to one primary style, but you can expand to two primary styles which is how you will have options in your engagements. I really think this is how Bungie wants to go about the loadout. At least this is how I understand it. I'm quite happy with how it will work out actually.

It's almost as if they have the ability to balance encounters around the weapon system, you know, like they did in D1? You're complaining about nothing

Edited by N8sNotSoGr8: 5/26/2017 2:14:27 PMWhat it's ultimately going to come down to is whether or not snipers are such a necessity for boss encounters in D2. If they bring boss health down to something manageable by primaries and (dare I say) abilities/supers, I don't think we'll have such a problem on the pve side, aside from losing certain play styles which Is admittedly a huge letdown. It looks like in the process of streamlining the mechanics of the game they forgot to add much needed content to fill in all the gaps they created (see subclasses for example). I'm anxious to get my hands on the game and see how it all turns out.

Since the balancing is separate for PvP and PvE, they can adapt the weapons to fill the new slots. E.g. Snipers can have high single target DPS, whilst Shotties can have high, instant damage over small ranges and Rockets can have similar, albeit very low ammo, with large area damage..
-
I'm sure it will work out.... but the only thing that I haven't liked the look of so far is the end of the strike and the guardians shooting the boss with a hand cannon.... 🤔
-
I'm sure those old special weapons will just do a lot more damage now, but in a lot of endgame in destiny people use snipers more than their actual heavy.
-
I don't mind having to shoot in a shooter to be successful to be honest. For me this sounds more like you need to have a weapon capable of long and close range in a slot. Power is whatever you like. If they are doing what I would have done with the special and heavy weapons in D1 they will be harder hitting than they were. Well at least my idea was to have less ammo but have the weapons hit that much harder for it. Which it looks like they definitely do. That said it could be enemy health just as well. Game balancing is more than just weapon damage.
-
Any weapon with "one hit kill" potential is in the power slot. That's a very good decision!
-
It depends on how they treat the ammo drop system. Either way I'm sure appropriate changes will be made to compensate. If not, I'll figure a way around it. Like how I only ever use Raze Lighter or Dark Drinker in my heavy slot..

I feel the exact name way

Hmm, it's promising.

There's no way to know for sure. We'll just have to wait for D2 to hit the shelves. My expectation is that they overhauled the damage infliction of a guardian (in pve). If not, D2 will become tedious and boring fast, very fast! In pvp my expectation is that matches get slowed down a lot (as seen in footage). People with not so good primary gun skill will camp power ammo. In Control that's ok, you just go in and Leroy Jenkins that shit. But in something less forgiving, like Trials / Elimination / Skirmish, it will become annoying very fast. But we'll have to wait that one out too ;-) Let's hope for the best!

I think it's a good thing. It will feel fresh and we will work together as a team a lot more. One guy is close quarters, another snipes, while the other deals mass damage with grenades or rockets. I think in the end it will break a lot of the monotony in PvE.
-
Maybe bosses won't be as tanky and more reliant on mechanics? Plus think of some of the raid bosses currently. Atheon you can't shoot rockets in bubble, Oryx rockets won't make him stun, golgoroth and war priest are both bosses that snipers are primarily used on. So not having a rocket and sniper will definitely change stuff, but it won't be as drastic as people think. This is just my opinion and I know some may differ.
-
No I feel like always having an energy secondary will help a ton. And I understand that snipers should be in the heavy slot because they are way more powerful on my boss fights than any other weapon. It would also be cool to use a scout rifle and then a hand cannon if you think about it. Kinda more realistic, Use your main weapon then pull out your pistol. Sounds cool to me
-
I'm not. Most people I've played with in Destiny 1 just use their sniper or rocket launcher for boss damage. Some people actually used their heavy to kill groups, but supers can handle that just as well.
-
Edited by Dayknight: 5/26/2017 12:12:34 PMA little yes especially with the grenade launchers. I feel like they will be quite powerful in pvp, or i could be totally wrong
-
Snipers were OP in PvE too bro, they are making it more of a tactical choice that you will probably make with your team in mind. Guardians were too stacked in D1, thats why everything was easy.
-
I think its a good change in PvE aswell. Sniper rifles is a power weapon in Destiny 1 PvE.. In most of the boss fights in Destiny 1 history, snipers have done the most damage. And i think shotguns and fusions in D2 PvE will have a bit more damage and viability as power weapons then they do now.
-
I'm not a fan of shotguns and snipers being heavys for pve but for pvp I don't mind it

Of course, it's extremely different. Going to have to see how it plays in the beta
-
It's not like they showed us a strike and we saw power weapons melt the boss.

There there, it will be ok 👌
