From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations.
Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button.
This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

Why be skeptical about finally balancing Special and Heavy Weapons
-
Before I really make a huge comment, I'm gonna have to try it first. If you hadn't noticed by the damage numbers in stream, there seems to be a huge change in damage outputs
-
I am a guy who plays PvE 90% of the time. I'll wait and try out the new system before judging but it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. PvE - Fighting unshielded adds? Use your kinetic primary. Fighting shielded enemies? Use your energy primary. Fighting a boss? Use your high damage weapon. It seems to me that it pretty much address any encounter you might have in PvE. I guess most people really are just naturally scared of change?
-
Moving the secondary weapons to the heavy slot should have been restricted to pvp only but that may not have been easily done. I don't really use snipers all that often so it probably won't effect me too much but it should be interesting to see how everyone copes.
-
The only way I could see this being offset is the fact that we have the Gatling miniguns equipable in the kinetic and energy slots but as far as I can tell they are no more then a glorified ar based on its dmg output. So to answer your question, yes I am worried about it. The only thing we can do is hope for the best and trust that bungie knows what they are doing. Snipers and shotguns will definitely hit harder now that they are considered heavys but I doubt it's going to be enough to offset the fact that if we choose to use a sniper or shotgun then we will not be able to use a more "traditional" heavy weapon.
-
No more orbit to save time in between loading new planets.... But we still have to go in game menu, waste 5 seconds select new weapon.... oh now it's empty since u switched heavys, back to menu press R1 go to inventory and select a ammo synth. Oh you're dead now..... lost heavy ammo Forced to wait 5 min. Enjoy
-
I think im going to like it. No sniper spam in pvp
-
I am skeptical on the new weapon system, but I will wait till open beta before I judge
-
It will take some getting use to, but like everything else in the game, it will eventually become second nature
-
You do know that the weapons in your secondary slot have elemental damage?
-
I'll agree that the new weapons system wouldn't be good in what we currently play. But destiny 2 is being built from the ground up, it's not a new layer of code over the aged engine. So I assume the load out will move smoothly (mostly) alongside the new game world. Also the new subclass load outs at first made me recoil in disgust but after a few days of mulling I realized myself and most people only switch out a node or two now and then once they find a play style they like. Adding in the uniform recharge rates for abilities and moving defence recovery and agility stats to the armor we wear has me very excited. All in all I see a huge effort to make a concise balancable game and get rid of the aggressively shifting meta's. Can't wait to get into the beta and a real feel for our next adventure 😁

It might make you have to coordinate with your friends to see who's bringing what power weapon. From the footage shown at the reveal shotguns, snipers, and fusions received significantly more ammo than a rocket launcher. I think it was 5 to 1.
-
I think the ammo capacities are very weapon based, so snipers fusions, and shotguns can carry a lot more Ammo allowing them to feel a bit more useful in pve.

Edited by Shadowshot2000: 5/26/2017 4:55:27 PMThis was one of the things I felt "I don't know" about. Unless they increased the power on the weapons that were once special weapons, I think they should probably go back to the old one. Edit: I read some of the post below and now I am taking what bungie was probably going for into consideration. Different primaries for different engagements might be interesting.
-
I'm actually curious about it. It'll definitely change up how we play, and I think that's a good thing.

Edited by JSiedman8: 5/26/2017 5:13:42 PMThis is my biggest concern for the game. In PvP if you can grab a crate of power ammo every 30 seconds, why wouldn't it turn into rocket fest? Shotguns become almost unusable as a whole in PvP. It will be interesting to see if you keep your ammo when you die, as in D1 you lost your heavy if you died. It will also be interesting to see if you keep your ammo in round based game types. In the current model of loadouts I just don't see why you wouldn't take 2 rockets every 30 seconds to a min if you have that ability. Sure 5-6 sniper shots can be nice....but you could scout rifle that sniper down and or just rocket them. The other thing that plays into this whole loadout issue is exotics. As we saw in D1 certain exotics of certain types were able to be used in various slots. EX: Universal Remote, No Land Beyond, Sleeper Simulant. If they stay with this idea, it's conceivable you could have a sniper/shotgun energy weapon...which IMO would give you a distinct advantage but also takes away from your ability to use an exotic primary. Time will tell....the Beta will be interesting.

I think its a bad deal for pvp and pve why do we need two primary's its so ridiculous and this whole "there not the same one slots kenetic the other elemental" is nonsense i dont want ppl running around with hand cannons and scouts it was fun in destiny 1 because you had to think out your load outs if i was using a sniper for my special then i needed a handcannon to cover all ranges vise versa side arm scout rifle its silly that we have 2 primaries now it will be just like halo 5 warzone you pick one rifle you like more and only switch to the other when you run out of ammo mid engagement then switch back and the heavy is literally just dumb just why? They should have kept everything the same put smgs into the special slot and bring back special ammo. The problem destiny 1 had with shot guns was that they became stupidly over powered once fusions were nerfed to the ground in early destiny you couldnt sprint 25 feet and kill some one with a shotty because some one would merc you with a fusion once they took those out shotguns had no "natural enemy" to keep them in check its like if you take out all guns in destiny but auto riles and hand cannons hand cannons will dominate because they kill faster then auto rifles and all engagements will be close enough where theres mo rage fall off.
-
I'm cautiously optimistic for pve, I think it is great for pvp though.
-
At first I thought they were just adding snipers and other special weapons to the power slot instead of moving now it just seems....
-
What everyone doesn't understand is that the kinetic slot has all your normal primaries hand cannon, auto, pulse, and scout. In the energy slot the only kinetic weapon that carries over is the hand cannon, as well as side arms and smg's. Now what your are missing is the ammo difference in the weapons in the power slot where a sniper can have a 5 round mag with 20 shots reserve a rocket launcher has 1 shot mag and 5 or 6 in reserve, machine guns are no longer in the game the only gatling gun is the exotic auto Sweet Buisness. So when it comes down to it they have changed the ammo capacity as well as the economy to balance the different choices.

Primary Sniper (or Fusion Rifle) SWORD There goes my loadout of choice 😢

Edited by BurningViper 7-2: 5/26/2017 4:55:13 PMNope. I'm just going to wait to try it out before I jump to conclusions.
KUPO!!!™
-
Im fine with the power slot but why use your kinetic weapon if you have an elemental weapon that is almost identical but has a burn?
-
Edited by Mr Legacy: 5/26/2017 4:22:27 PMI think the new weapons system is great for every activity, not being able to rely on such high damage options anymore leaves us having to strategize more, which is always good imo. Also, if Bungie can deliver. You have to think that if they're removing such high damage options, it'll let them get more creative with bosses and create less spongey enemies.
-
I think it's going to be very interesting when it Comes to crucible. For pve I am not sure but hey the warlock has bubble and the titan can make a shield.
-
Fusions, shotguns and snipers will all have more ammo than the traditional heavies. Doesn't necessarily address what you are worried about, but it provides some kind of solution to the problem nonetheless.
