From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations.
Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button.
This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

I think they may be lowering the health of bosses, seeing as how in the footage of people playing the new strike they weren't taking a super long time to kill the boss, despite not using power weapons a ton

This is why we have scout rifles. Ill be using that for medium/long range and a submachine gun hehehehee

Not really. No.

You will just need to have different loadouts in your fireteam

Can't wait until every boss turns into Rockets McDickface. In all seriousness though, I'll give the system a try. I'll miss not being able to use snipers on bosses, though. And using a machine gun.
