From a PvP standpoint I can see why they went this route. It will vastly reduce the stranglehold shotguns and sniper rifles had on the crucible. But from a PvE standpoint I don't see any benefit. Having shotguns, fusions, and sniper rifles grouped up with rocket launchers and machine guns will limit our ability to adapt to different situations.
Before we were able to wield both a sniper rifle to take on Tanky bosses and rocket launchers and machine guns to deal with mobs of enemies. Now it seems like we're gonna constantly have to switch up our power weapons to deal with different threats, losing our ammo in the process, instead of just simply pressing a button.
This system just seems to limit our weapon choice for pve engagement instead of broaden it. Plus,in my opinion, I don't really see how a sniper rifle or shotgun fits into the POWER weapon category, unless bungie plans on completely overhauling their damage.

I love pairing a scout rifle with a hand cannon then a sniper or rocket launcher in the last slot. It is like a western style load out system minus the rocket launcher

Edited by Ant Heuser Kush: 5/27/2017 9:06:43 AMAll the weapons in the power category are OHK (one hit kill) weapons. I'm pretty optimistic. Hand cannon, pulse rifle, shotty/fusion for PvP. Scout rifle, SMG, sniper for PvE. Or who knows? I may switch it up because I have more options.
-
Optomistic. Hand Cannon Scout Rifle and Grenade Launcer? Yes please.
-
Hey, they brought back Elemental Primaries. Isn't that what we wanted?
-
Shottys, snipes and FRs also seem to have gotten buffed Will also destroy the over reliance on tbe Sniper/rockets loadouts in PvE Now I can use a Different primary type for elemental sheilds like an elemental HC for shielded enimies and ar/Sr to pick of groups of mobs without switching the loadout. Seems like an overall good change to destroy the current pve reliances while simultaneously breaking the meta of special weapons in pvp
-
Have you played Halo? It will be like that except with three weapon slots.
-
No, It will finally make the game challenging in a gunplay point of view.
-
Nope, I'll judge it when I play it
-
Well... That's the thing. We cant assume the snipers, shotguns and fusions are exactly the same. Another assumption is ammo parity. If we can hold 10 shots of a grenade launcher but hold 18 shots of shotgun ammo. I may have to get closer, but the damage I'd be able to do may be higher and faster with a shotgun. A sniper which would have more ammo than a rocket may serve me better against bosses or tankier enemies. I'm also going to assume that we will see enemies balanced to deal with these enemies. I'm personally excited about multiple primaries . I can hold a Scout for range, a hand cannon or AR for CQ and a Grenade Launcher for those bad ass moments I want. Now something I hope doesn't happen, is that we see a shortage of power ammo. Because I'm fine if they limit the rockets we can hold to balance it with snipers and shotties but when I want to snipe in strikes , I better damn not have to go around begging for ammo.
-
As long as they actually do have Host Servers in D2 and the Peer to Peer stuff does not allow people to harvest my IP address for IP Exploits, I'm okay with it. What I suspect is that people will have to work more as a team in their load out selection. This person runs Sniper for long range pinpoint attacks, that person runs Heavy Machine gun for hordes, the third person uses Rockets / Grenade launcher for Boss and Hordes.
-
I'll look at it, and everything else, with a skeptical eye when the beta drops, but until I get my hands on it, its more of a curiosity.
-
I kinda like the idea of the kinetic and elemental slot. The one question I have that I have yet to see asked (but probably already has), how does this slot work? Do I pick any weapon for that slot then pick which element I want? I mean knowing the grind section of this game I doubt it. But I've gotta say it could be extremely annoying trying to acquire 4 of every gun that you really like/want if you need to track down every conceivable version of it meaning perks + element combo. That's a ridiculous amount of RNG that has to go your way Nah mean bruh.

Its already been established that the Load outs was changed specifically for PvP. So they went in to a game that is 90% PvE and made loadouts based on 10% of the game.
-
It's all for the pvp again
-
It's all bc of pvp, pvp is negatively impacting pve on launch this time around tho.
-
I normally have a wait and see approach to changes. I will admit though changes to the game to better PVP have almost always had a negative impact on PVE. My hope is that purple ammo blocks will be raining down on our guardians in PVE and we will not lose all of the ammo when we switch weapons. If that happens we will be okay. If we get a programmable D pad or something that allows quick loadout changes we will be golden.
-
Bungie got a headstart on nerfing pve to appease the Crucibabies.
-
You mean the reakinned destiny 1 ? We fight koryx cousin of oryx.
-
I'm going to wait to judge it until I can actually get my hands on the game instead of speculating
-
Kind of looking forward to it. Only reason is if Bungie screws up weapon loadouts, there is really no hope for them. Just set the bar so low, their only option is to exceed it.
-
Seems like with the bosses they are going for the more mechanical route instead of just massive health pools. Maybe heavy drops will be more generous during pve? Don't know, we'll just have to wait & see.

Not having dedicated servers however is just stupid as hell

Maybe now it will take some more strategy to play pve. Group composition will focus more on individual roles as opposed to everyone using the same guns, with 1-2 different sets for specific roles. Soloing content will truly be a heroic endeavour. And clearing a new raid might finally take days not hours.
-
THIS IS A GOOD THING. You were never meant to be able to form a loadout that covered everything the level threw at you; you were supposed to be forming a team that did that.
-
If you thought you were weak in Destiny 1's PVE due to all the unnecessary nerfs, just wait. You'll be walking around with 2 primaries and 1 [heavy OR special] now. Thanks a lot, Crucibabies!

Why be skeptical about finally balancing Special and Heavy Weapons
