Not necessarily. Game writers can invoke all sorts of interesting things to happen in the script- what if they wanted to hit us with a curveball, and say that the Rift has held a pocket of Light after all this time and now that we need it we can use it? Personally, I've studied every single bit of Destiny lore down to the letter, and I had no idea that a shard of the Traveler is what reclaims us. It could've been anything.

I theorized we would find a shard like the one the Hive captured just about two days ago on this forum. Nobody told me,I just came to that logical conclusion based on the fact that even though Gary cut us off,we still have enough light to fight and stay alive(considering without light we would likely crumble...being centuries dead and all)
