One of the best features of Destiny is the fact that the guns felt exactly the same on both environments.
It allowed the Guardian to practice new techniques on PvE, and then port them over easily to PvP.
Edit: Who uses Thorn in PvE???

Thorn was a cabal killer. So easy to take out the shield guys.
-
You can take out the sheild guys out with one precision hit from the front. It is hard to pull off, and rarely seen in PvE, but none the less possible.
-
The guns don't feel the same at all. You're delusional if you think that.

Practice new techniques in PvE? I think fighting Fallen/Vex/Cabal/Hive/Taken is maybe just a little different than fighting a guardian... You can't really port those techniques from one to the other... PvE you learn enemy behaviour/tactics and understand what makes each race unique and how to combat them. The NPC enemies will always behave predictably more or less. In PvP every single guardian you face is different, with a different playlist, different weapons, different abilities, different defence, different hitboxes... Unless you only fight the same people that always play the exact same way all the time, it's not really comparable at all. Also I use Thorn in PvE although not as much. The DoT used to be very useful, and the bullets over-penetrate enemies so you could potentially kill multiple enemies in a single shot. That's pretty useful.

That is like saying that soldiers at a shooting range learn nothing that will help them in combat. PvE is a shooting range. PvE offers offers a level of repetition, that is not present in the PvP environment. I use hand cannons, and I found repetition in PvE invaluable in tuning muscle memory. I have observed the effect too. If I have a PvE session before entering PvP, I am noticeably more accurate than if I had not bothered. You would be surprised how little variation there actually is. If they follow the meta, they are very predictable. The only difficult thing is targeting the exit points blink, Nightstalker evade, or the Titan Evade. Everything else is bread and butter.
-
I will have to try this. Run a story before entering the crucible. Hmmmmm ...
-
A warm-up... You do not train your muscle memory? It is the reason why I am almost 60% with hand cannons in PvP.
-
I completely disagree... And I'm not going to continue arguing the point because it's going to go nowhere.
-
I used Thorn in PvE in Year 1, but it fell short of my expectations.

I use [armory]Thorn[/armory] in PvE, it's great to still do damage while reloading!
-
Thing is though, guns feel different already between the modes, even though this is the intent.
-
In what way? I have noticed no difference, at least amongst the weapons that I use.
-
Damage, strength, efficiency. What is strong in PVE is not necessarily strong in PVP and vice versa. For example, scouts dominate PVE and are lackluster (which exception) in PVP. Handcannons dominate PVP and suffer heavily from each range nerf in PVE. Damage scaling is also very much different in each game mode for both abilities and weapons.
Edit: Who uses Thorn in PvE???
Early on in Y1, especially before you got a ton of high powered gear, thorn was a great way to do "Kill Target" events because the DoT kept the target's shield from going back up. The tactic was to use the Thorn in conjunction with fire from a heavy machine gun matching the target's shield and you could take it down with relative ease. This also worked with Urzok by the way during TDB. You probably don't think of it now, but back in Y1 it was MUCH harder to get quality weapons and increase your light level, so making tactical use of something like Thorn's DoT was more important, even if the gun, itself was really crappy.

-
I actually never thought of that, but that is actually quite clever. My group never really had issues with coordinating the rockets. All 4 on the ledge should have been targeting Crota from the moment the swordbearer died LOL.
-
I did a lot of sherpaing in HOW from hating POE so I frequently was working with newbies and people with no tracking Rockets so it helped me keep the flow going even through tougher groups. Stopped that instant regen happening and the sword bearer could adapt to the delay without losing the whole damage cycle
-
LOL I hated POE too, so I played PVP mostly, although I wasn't really a PVP-oriented player. Got most of my EL from the 34's and Iron Banner. Bloody brilliant use of the weapon though, I never thought of that.
-
Thanks. A lot of people had ghorn so it probably didn't even cross their mind. I was stuck with my valedictorian and hunger until about halfway through HOW when ghorn finally dropped. It was actually my primary reason for being against nerfing the dot. But Crota got left behind so didn't matter much for that anymore
-
That's his point. No one can use thorn in pve because it's useless due to PvP balance issues. I don't think you're comprehending the point of this post dude.
-
Thorn always was useless in PvE, having too small a magazine, and being too low damage wise.
-
Edited by CryogenicEmbryo: 4/26/2017 8:37:00 PMI'm sorry for your loss. Thorn actually stunlocked ultras at the height of it's greatness, imagine 3 thorns all stunlocking an ultra in an endless cycle of spasmness? Allowing your fireteam to go to town on said ultra? It was a great thing to behold. Also worked on majors to a degree that they would just slowly move towards you, they stopped shooting or in the fallen majors case they would no longer jump at you and swing there dual blades at your face, they would just slowly move towards you grunting in pain as the DoT does it's job. But alas the PVP jerks ruined that for us PVE players!! Ahhh the good ol days.

Your opinion. I used to see it all the time, and effectively used. I agree with others - the loadouts are so different a shared sandbox is moot.
