I like Venus from my warlock perspective. The vex ruins cast an image of mystery and unknown power while the Academy cast a sort of vast knowledge vibe. For the "post apocalyptic" vibe, I go to the cosmodrome. The apocalypse aspect to me just doesn't come out as much as bungie marketed it. The world feels to alive yet doesn't feel full. It feels like an area with enemies. If we could investigate these places and there were less enemies, that vibe would come out. But it just doesn't for me. We have massive alien warships, alien military bunkers, and alien dens in caves. When you play through all these spaces, the PA effect just doesn't come out. The fallen hurt this the most. We go through these spaces but the fallen ruin it with their computers and spikes and what ever else. It just doesn't feel abandoned and forgotten. Perhaps another reason for this would be the fact that old Russia isn't recognizable. If it was someplace in America, or someplace that most people knew, that PA feeling would come out more. But it just doesn't come out. If we could deeply explore this world like going through active computers, opening doors that were closed for hundreds of years, going through old documents and security cameras to see what the golden age would have been like, and finding secrets that aren't in random -blam!-ing caves. The cosmodrome just doesn't feel like an apocalypse happened, just like people took everything and left.
