Why the -blam!- do sidearms have more range now than handcannons?

Revert the range nerf on handcannons. I dont want any nerfs but sidearms shouldnt be shooting farther than handcannons. Edit: Im not calling for a nerf, im saying hand cannon range shouldnt have been touched.

  • Because sidearms were never intended to be routinely going up against primaries. They were designed to kill quickly in a game where you'd be using them against people armed with shotguns and fusion rifles. Or a sniper going to his Last Word to fend off a push. In that situation, sidearms are well-balanced and take a good deal of skill at "distance control" to use well. But when the special ammo changes, Bungie has largely pushed shotguns and fusion rifles out of the game. So now people can come flying at you with a sidearm and be confident that they wont' run into a shotgun or fusion rifle to put them down. So all we've done----by refusing to fix the game's primary weapon problems-----is exchange a meta where people charged at you with shotguns like a silverbacked gorilla, wo one where players do the same but with sidearms.

    • We have 2 and a half years of evidence clearly illustrating that Bungie do not play their own game to any decent level, do not understand the people that play it and don't put a great deal of thought into the impact of their changes. Why was this suddenly going to change?

    • They have no place to go but down now. They nerfed all primary classes to the point that when they gave back something as small as accuracy in hand cannons they completely took over the crucible don't say they didn't cause they clearly did. So they went back to what was easy the nerf button. Think about it we all wanted back our powerful primary weapons to take back the game from the secondary spam meta of the game so what did they do? Took away secondary weapons LOL. They are just sticking to what they know cause they don't posess the skill to go back the other way.

      • I hope Bungie reads the amount of posts clearly demonstrating a disgust with the current meta. Anyone that thinks this current state of crucible is acceptable , I wouldn't mind pushing in front of a moving train or bus.

          • If you want changes enacted, you have to post about trials, have hypothesizes of trials and proof and evidence that it affects only trials, then and only then will Bungie nerf stuff and make unnecessary changes (Like Memory of Skorri) to all aspects, PvE and PvP. Which reminds me, since Memory of Skorri is useless everywhere, including PvE, delete it Bungie. No one uses it anymore. I think most use Memory of Jolder now from what I see. Only Artifact worth wearing/using now.

            • Hand cannons definitely needed the range nerf. Even now you have Palindrome and Eyasluna with rangefinder and rifled barrel semi-mapping people. It's still meta and you want it buffed? I can agree with sidearms though. Either they bring back special ammo or nerf the -blam!- out of their range.

            • They don't...for the most part. Sidearm base ranges falls between 17 and 36. Handcannon base ranges falls between 15 and 61. There is some overlap, but the base range on a handcannon wins out overall. Even adding rangefinder to a sidearm at a range stat of 36 will not get to the pinnacle 61 number. And handcannons can arrive with the rangefinder perk as well, so there is that to consider. The issue you have with sidearms is not the range, but the rate of fire. There are few sidearms that can not be spammed at close to mid distance and still put the hurt on you. That sidearm spammer is throwing way more bullets at you in the same time you need those three classic crits from your handcannon. If you are trying to keep up with them without pacing your shots, you will probably miss, and give them the advantage. If they have HCR's on that sidearm, then even someone proficient with pacing may have trouble. As with most problems in this game, Bungie made the guy who can throw more bullets with less effective force the winner in 1v1's. DoP, CD/Grasp, TLW, Mida - all guns that have the lowest impact and highest RoF in their respective weapon classes.

            • Sidearms have more range, more accuracy, more stabiliy and have the same time to kill as handcannon. Wormwood is the best primary weapon ever introduce to the game.

                Just remember, no weapon can ever be as broken as Queenbreakers bow was in year 1 for about a week.... one bodyshot kills from any range and insane bullet magnetism(or laser magnetism? Hmmm).

                  Hand cannons are some of the top used weapons in the game, at all levels of play... Sidearms are barely any different than they were.

                  Bump this^ seriously, buff the -blam!-ing range back. This is just dumb. They're already completely range dependent which excluded 3/4 of the hand cannons out there. Only one archetype can be used and only if it has range perks...and they still have shit range. Bungie fix this shit immediately....please:) Sidearms are fine, just bring range stat up on handcannons. Then don't touch them again. You suck at this

                  • Agreed, anybody that knows anything about bullets knows that bigger bullets travel farther. Not only does it hurt the meta with lack of counter play to side arms but it doesn't even make sense.

                        • I have to agree. Hand cannons should win out assuming your aim is on point. At close range that is. Don't get me wrong. I don't want side arms to go by the way side. They make for a great back up. I've run a scout/sidearm loadout since before it was the cool thing to do. But in a one on one confrontation, I'd expect hand cannons to dominate.

                        • Because bungies idea of balance is just nerfing range. Seriously, why are HCs the only primary they requires 33% crit rate to maintain optimal TTK? Nerf the body shot damage, increase the crit multiplier and give them more range.
