What you see in that example, op, is the perfect example of an overrepresented demographic with an inferiority complex. They see one thing that isn't catered specifically to them, and so suddenly that game must be working towards some agenda to undermine him (typically the reason that the term sjw is thrown around in far more scenarios than it actually applies to).
It's funny, yet sad that people can be that insecure about their own self that they have to avoid everything that doesn't remind them of themselves.
As for me, I can play either a male or female character, and I swap quite often between them. Usually I'll pick my character's sex based on what role I want to play with them. A good example being skyrim, I picked males usually for the brutal melee characters, and picked females for assassin's and mages.
