Enjoy this game
Dated as it is, it was one of the best games to come out during the PSone days and holds up today
My one bit of advice, do not farm for the Crissaegrim in the upside down until after a first playthrough
Other then that...

Took me like 10 full minutes of chain-swinging to figure out that you have to hit Dracula in the face in that very first fight lol

Yup, then as I "Got Gud" trying to backflip over his fireballs to not get hit Some of my best gaming moments came from that game

The quicker you kill him and the less damage you take during that fight as Richter actually determines your starting stats for Alucard. It's a great game though and one that I go back to quite a lot. As mentioned before, I would look into unlocking the second half of the game, which can only be done after one of the bosses are killed in a certain way. One of my favorite metroidvania style games though. Very few come close to the quality of this game.

Fascinating...I might end up playing this game for years on end now that I hear that's what happens to people... I guess the vampire theme was a good fit I know there are other games in the series though, how do they compare?

Honestly, most of them aren't too bad but they are just your basic action platformer. SOTN is the only one that has the metroid formula in it and I believe a new Castlevania is being developed that follows the same setup as SOTN. In addition to the upside down castle in the second half of the game, you can also put in Richter's name in the name selection screen and play through the whole game as him. It's more of a challenge but adds a twist with how you deal with enemies and bosses.
