Do you find it hard to identify with characters of the opposite sex?

I came across this comment on a video about Horizon Zero Dawn. I personally find it stupid that some people can't get over themselves when it comes to playing as the opposite sex in video games. In this example it appears the person doesn't like the idea of just a female protagonist. I can't help but question why the genitals of a character really matter? Shouldn't we be focused on the personality of the character and what they stand for as opposed to what is between their legs? What annoys me is that the original commenter is calling people feminists without putting up an argument when being called out on it... Anyway, thoughts?

  • No. As long as a games story is engaging and it's characters are well written then I have no problem identifying as a female character despite being a guy. Then again, I'm a storyline gamer who loves a good 3rd person narrative story. Some gamers prefer 1st person narratives and like to role play that they are the characters in these games ( case in point, Destiny or Dark Souls ). So I understand why this could be an issue for certain guys ( especially if the female game protagonist is written in such a way that her femininity is repeatedly shoved down the gamers throat ).
