How to "git gud" at fighting games.
Since I keep seeing For Honor post I figured I may as well give some tips. I am by no means a pro, but this should be common sense.
-Practice makes perfect
-If someone is spamming, then git gud and [i][b]DOOOOODGE[/b][/i], or counter, block, punish, etc.
-try playing with various other characters so you can learn their strengths and weaknesses
-don't stand near a death trap like a fool (For Honor specific)
-following an honor code in any fighter is the dumbest thing possible. You're there to win.
-read your opponents moves
-if you're opponent is better then you then keep facing them. You will undoubtedly leave a much better player after getting your ass handed to you. You may even beat them.
-Don't get mad or stressed out, it'll cause you to make mistakes that can make you lose a round, or even worse the match
-if you have friends that play them you guys should practice with each other (ha) and share tips if possible.
-Don't be a dick that sends hatemail.
If anyone wants me to add any tips then let me know.
Edit: lol at everyone thinking this is strictly for For Honor.
Edit: I forgot to put "learn mix ups". Which is learn different combos so you're not as predictable.

If you spam all your kewl flashy attacks, good players will just block + counter you easily. Just legit stand there, wait for an attack, block, counter. That's IT. If they come in with a heavy "block breaking" attack, just hit them with a quick jab attack and combo them before they can strike.

For Honor is not the most complicated game. If anything you need to know to get better is to learn to block (the game does half of that for you) and learn your characters combos - like learning that Kenshi's heavy strike forward 3 times will yield an unblockable attack on the third strike (watch the videos in the game). Now to take your skills to the next level, learn other characters combos so you can predict them. All in all, be patient, let your opponent engage you, block successfully, know your abilities and when to use them.

The only "honor" code I follow is the no ganking in 2v2. I let my teammate have their fight, they let me have mine. I just don't find a lot of fun in ganking in this game, just feels like EZ mode

I still prefer having honor than being a scumbag tryhard. Besides, screwing about and waving with the enemy is fun. And it results in a "GG", not "fk u"

In elimination I'll take care of my part and then wander towards my allies to spectate on their fighting and kill their target if they manage lose. Other than that, any 4v4 is open war. It's a gank fest most of the time.

I've been avoiding 1v1 in For Honor because I assumed the sweatiest most hardcore players are in it. I gave it a shot today, and I was surprised how well I did. The dude rage quit on the third round.
