Worlds Apart - short fanfic (actually just trying out writing something)

(First of all, thank you for clicking on this. I had this little idea in my mind for quite some time and wanted to put it in writing. Don't judge me too harshly, mmkay?) --------------------------------------------------------- Worlds Apart Preview Chapter: Guardian Down --- Federation Space Exploration Base - Cape Canaveral, Florida, New America - June 10th, 2740, 11:52 p.m. The lights have been long since cut, though a faint glow could be seen coming from an open door at the end of Hallway B. A researcher hurries down that hall, skidding to a halt and rushing into the room. "Sir! Sir, you have to see this! The anomaly... it's changing, and these.... these creatures..." He dissolved into incoherent babbling and slumped against the door. The staff within the room all had a somber expression on their face. They already knew what was happening. Only a few weeks prior, every satellite in orbit picked up the same thing - an astronomical anomaly forming just outside of lunar orbit. At first, the story was suppressed by the governments, but then as it grew larger, civilians began noticing it. In only a few days, the entire planet's governments had declared war upon one another, each of them stating that the others were responsible for it, claiming that it was some kind of superweapon. The religious freaks were having a field day, convinced that it was the fabled End Times. Only one person in the room wasn't deep in thought. Test pilot Toshiro Inoue, flown in from Japan midway through the anomaly crisis, was at this current moment asleep in his chair at the back of the room. The SEB had decided on an enormously dangerous and highly illegal mission, sending a test pilot and test craft into the heart of the anomaly itself. A scientist walked over to him and prodded his cheek with her pen, waking him. "Sir. Mister Inoue. You're needed in Flight Bay Seven. It's time..." Yawning slightly, and feeling a bit disgruntled but slightly apprehensive at the same time, Toshiro nodded. "Right. Let's get this over with." He closed his eyes again and whispered a prayer, then a dedication to his homeland. As he left the room, the staff within applauded him, while simultaneously crossing themselves as if sealing his fate. Making his way down the empty halls, he reflected on his past training. Flying various test craft for Japan and New America, from low-altitude sea skimmers to personal moon shuttles, he certainly had the proper background for the mission. And, he thought with a grim smile, his family situation was perfect. Being an only child, and single, he had no immediate family left to worry about his safe homecoming. Because there was to be no safe homecoming... --- Astronomical Anomaly, Extralunar Orbit, Same time. "You'll have to thank those hunks of metal for this later..." The creature spoke in it's own tongue, a misshapen being that resembled a vile corruption of what used to be a human. It's three glowing green eyes sparkled with anticipation. "They let us into a timeline without any resistance... this world will be ours for the taking." --- FSEB, Flight Bay Seven, A few moments later. Toshiro had finally reached the flight bay, and stood there in the presence of what would most likely be his final resting place. A sleek new spacecraft, codenamed HL-1, christened the Holy Lancer, stood there waiting for him. A few flight techs were examining it, and the President of New America himself was there to wish Toshiro a safe journey. "Godspeed, my friend... godspeed, and good luck. The fate of the world rests on your shoulders, and the data you send back to us." Nodding once in understanding, Toshiro suited up and climbed into the cockpit. "Well, here goes nothing. Angel, I'm ready for launch." He had went over this scenario at least 40 times in testing over the past week. Angel, his ship's computer, was programmed to respond to his voice, and the SEB had already decided on a quick launch. As the flight bay's door opened into the night, Toshiro looked down at the techs on the tarmac and gave them a thumbs up. "Mission 'Surgical Strike' is go!" Engines spinning up, jets flaring to life, the HL-1 rolled out onto the landing strip, and then blasted into flight almost instantly. Climbing higher and higher, it broke free of Earth's gravity in only 10 minutes. For those few minutes, everything looked to be going well... then it happened. Out of nowhere, another 'anomaly' appeared - this time, a glowing white disc of energy directly in Toshiro's flight path. Unable to compensate for this, he flew directly into it.... and promptly vanished, all tracking lost back in the SEB. It was then that the collective sigh and various expletives were almost instantly silenced by the first blast from the invaders. --- Waking Ruins, Ishtar Sink, Venus. Present Day. 0420 hours. Floating through the air, the little white robot scanned various structures, looking for a sign of life. "I'm sure it's around here somewhere... I can sense it." Dodging various Vex units, nearly getting vaporized by a Torch Hammer, it finally spotted what it came here for, and dipped low to the ground to avoid being noticed. "Great... well, I didn't expect him to be alive. Ugh..." The Ghost had found the ruins of Toshiro's ship, having crashed here after passing through the Vex Gate that opened up in front of his ship, sending him from one timeline to another. "Eyes up, Guardian!" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- (I realize this is alot of backstory, and not much Destiny related is going on, but please, any criticism is welcome.)
