Destiny is basically just a Power Fantasy, Action, FPS (kind of MMORPG). That First part though is what makes me think that our D1 characters will survive. Some people might not grasp it when they make suggestions like our D1 characters getting killed off. Destiny became a Power Fantasy after TDB or Crota's End. We killed a God so what can beat us now. The Power Fantasy Aspect became huge after we killed Oryx right? At this point, normal enemies can't fight us on fair ground. The thing is is that Bungie took tips from Bethesda about how to make a Power Fantasy. They tell you early on about the fact that you are a god but they forget to remind you when the minor threats come along. An example of this is how it was never brought up that you killed Crota in TDB when you were playing HoW. Malok should have sh*t his pants when he saw us walk towards him. We killed Oryx who was way more powerful than Malok but they don't remind you. My Bethesda Power Fantasy example is Skyrim. Remember when you killed Alduin, the World Eater, he's a god but when you tell Serana's mother that you'll kill Lord Harkon, the Vampire Lord. She laughs at you even though your the Dragonborn who has already killed a God. Bungie pasted that into Destiny. Destiny is still a Power Fantasy, you have a Legendary Status as God-slayer, Vault-raider, and Kingtakers. So when people tell me that a Cabal Invasion will put down our D1 Guardian, I shake my head. We have killed God's before but how will some Psions kill The Lord Guardian. We just became Iron Lords, you think that's gonna be short lived? No. That's another Power Fantasy mistake. If being an Iron Lord is so special, then why don't the Vanguard call us Lord or Lady Guardian. It doesn't matter if they are a higher rank but it matters if they respect us, which they should. Rant over.

  • Personally I think we should play a new guardian so we can start over but have our old guardian be our mentor or something.

It's a nice idea at the end of the day but if we do play a new Guardian just to kill more God's, then what was so special about the Guardian from D1. Like I said, Destiny has established itself as a Power Fantasy and it wouldn't make sense to just move on to the next Guardian.

  • They will need some way to make a clean slate and this is a good way in my opinion. Also if our old guardian was our mentor you would have to remember that he would teach your new guardian every thing he or she knows. So he would still be more powerful. Also who said we had to kill more gods? Our old guardian is making the enemy run out of basically everything at this point.

  • What's the point of having the D1 Guardian be our mentor? Sure they'd be able to teach us a few tricks but we wouldn't be as powerful as they would. Sword Logic end of it. Not only that but this is Bungie game design. No matter how we end up in D2, we will end of killing more God's. Once again this is a Power Fantasy and we must treat it as such. Also what you suggest has lots of plot holes. Unless you suggest that our D1 character dies then what's the point of having the D2 Guardian around. I'm not saying that your idea is bad, I just don't think that it would work. In fact I kind of like it. I think what would work more is if Bungie takes after Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. Your D2 Guardian is the D1 Guardian reborn. A spiritual successor of sorts.

  • Either we have to play as a new guardian or something happens to the old guardian wiping everything so we get a clean slate.

I'm sure that we'll be seeing some sort of change, however I think that we won't be getting a new Guardian. A Clean slate would be fine. We just have to start at square 1. If we lose our light then we build raw power instead.
I might make a post about this topic to get the word out. I don't know everything but I do believe what I say here.
