Totally agree! Eysaluna is much better than Hawkmoon I think! And it's a legendary!
Range and aim assist are better on Eysaluna period. Ok Hawk can kill in 2 headshots but I takes 1 big spot in your armory taken to the battlefield.
In any case the combo hawkmoon/shotgun cannot work and it's a pain in close combat. You get flanked before you started shooting.
The only good option is with a sniper but I suck at it so I kind of regret the money spent for Hawkmoon me :(

You say it takes a big spot in your inventory. No one is using hawkmoon in PVE. so in PVP what other exotic do you need besides primary?! When you have matador/sniper and g&h rocket launchers. That argument doesn't make any sense to me.

Feel you, dude. Love the gun, but it definitely underperforms compared to eyasluna.
