This is a much supported fan theory I've read and watched videos on. I find it curious that the guardians are titled with negative connotations such as HUNTER, TITAN and WARLOCK. Why are we guardians not called Knights and Wizards and so forth. Also, didn't Rasputin kill off some of the Iron Lords? I thought I remember Something mentioned in ROI...

 • Warlock
Not all Warlocks are represented in a negative light, although it generally refers to "a man who practises witchcraft; a sorcerer". Synonyms include "black magician" (a practitioner of black magic), "wizard", "occultist", and "spellcaster". Considering that the Hive already have Wizards, I'd go with the Warlock because it's simple and quick off the tongue compared to black magician, occultist, or spellcaster. Also, it allows Destiny to stand out from more traditional fantasy RPGs as the person above me said.
Titan
Titans are "great or imposing figures in their field", by definition. Considering the physical appearance of Titans, that part isn't too hard to agree with. However, what I'm struggling with is the supposition that the term "titan" is intended as a negative connotation - if you're referring to the reputation if the Greek titans, then I guess I understand why you'd think that. They do indeed have great strength and an imposing physical presence, but that isn't always a bad thing.
Hunter
If anything, this is one of the more positive, and accurate, connotations considering what Hunters actually do - they use stealth/invisibility (Bladedancer/Nightstalker) to follow their targets or pick them off from distance and in quick succession (Gunslinger).
