When connecting two PS4's through the same router, access your router settings and make sure you have UPnP turned on, and port forwarding turned off. Turn off NAT acceleration. Turn off any firewalls that could be blocking ports. You should also assign each console a static IP address. After saving all the settings, clear your console's cache, and power cycle your router/modem. After powering back up, perform an Internet connection test on each PS4. After doing the above, if you still can't join one another, you may have an issue with your router. If so, you should try a different router. I would borrow one first before buying one because you may have the same issue with a different router. If you need help figuring out how to do any of the above, a Google search will help, as well as Bungie's network troubleshooting guide.

  • @jnikoley how do you do it on an XB1. mainly i have and it currently shows on my Arris Gateway that UPnP is enabled and zeroed - port forwarding and triggering is off. but the xboxs still have an issue. Do you assign the static ip in the DMZ?

  • There are a couple of different ways to assign your Xbox a static IP. Use this guide to set up a static IP, just ignore the steps for port forwarding, since we want to use UPnP. You should also rename each Xbox in the Xbox settings. Again, after setting everything up correctly, if it still doesn't work, you may need to try a different router. I recommend borrowing one first to see if it will work because any new router may have the same problem.

thanks will do - i did rename the xboxs previously. My next step is to try the static IP with UPnP enabled. i need to do this for each xbox correct - just trying to be simple stupid for understanding. will this then in theory open my NAT?

Your NAT should be open already if UPnP is working properly. Make sure that your router is connected to a modem, or that you are using a combo modem/router only. If you connect a router to a combo modem/router, you need to set the combo modem/router in bridge mode so that it functions as a modem.
