I get what Switzerland is thinking but I don't agree with it. If the parents feel it's inappropriate, let them opt to pay for private lessons or something.
Also, I don't get this:
The case was brought by two Swiss nationals, of Turkish origin, who refused to send their teenage daughters to the compulsory mixed lessons in the city of Basel.
Education officials, however, said that exemptions were available only for girls who had reached the age of puberty - which the girls had not reached at the time.
Now, I'm no biologist, but haven't most teen girls already reached puberty? I suppose they could have been late bloomers, but still.

Edited by LahDsai: 1/11/2017 11:43:50 AMSince when does 10 qualify as a "teen"? Misleading article.

indeed, they are 10 years old and attend a elementary school. I personally think learning to swim is important and I know for a fact that there are burkas designed for swimming so there are ways they could attend swimming lessons without breaking Muslim laws

I agree. Let them wear a burkini or, if it's really that big of a problem, pay for private classes and have them join another class during school hours.
