So learning how to swim is a requirement in Swiss schools?
Seems a bit absurd.

I wish my school did that. Not that I don't know how to swim, but I love it
-
Everyone should learn how to swim, it's not rocket appliances.
-
its a must here in sweden i think its a really important skill, even more so when you live in a country with any type of coastline or lakes
-
its an important life skill, regardless of whether or not you actively swim.
-
I understand that completely. I just didn't think it was required to know how to.
-
sounds ridiculous for sure, but can you imagine going to some lakeside home and your friend/wife says "lets go for a swim" but then you look at them with terror. They just want to help you, really.
-
That would be rough but I've met people that can't swim and aren't ashamed of it. They just don't swim. I've also met people with aquaphobia, but that's an entirely different subject.
-
swimming for sport is your choice, but not being able to swim means you cant safely go fishing either. I havent swam in years, but i still know how if need be.
-
We had required swimming lessons in middle school. Isn't that a normal thing?
-
I guess it depends where you live. Schools in my area didn't have swimming facilities growing up. Maybe now more of them do but I never would have guessed it a requirement.
-
It was only 2 weeks of PE both 7th and 8th grade years. It was a requirement tho. Also boys and girls swimming classes were separate
-
The more you know 💫
-
Yeah, like, what about the black people? Gosh...
Don't hate please 👌😁

So learning how to swim is a requirement in Swiss schools? Seems a bit absurd.
Your comment is the definition of ignorance.
-
It was a legitimate question. I'm pretty certain a majority of schools do not have swimming facilities. And even if they did, seems like it should be an elective more than a requirement.
-
It is more useful then learned when Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
-
I would think swimming was much more of a necessity for sailors during Columbus' time than in the Swiss Alps.
-
There are bodies of water in the Swiss. Teaching kids to swim lowers their chance of drowning. All teaching Columbus does is increase their knowledge of early explorers, which you won't use later on in your life unless you are a historian.
-
Agreed.
-
I learned how to swim myself. I didn't need my school to teach me
-
Now you don't need a private instructor, though.
-
Guess not
-
And now EVERYONE knows how to swim.
-
Doesn't mean they'll be good at it
-
They won't be stellar, but they won't drown.
