You know the game in its current form has dedicated servers, right? Destiny is a hybrid of P2P and Dedicated Servers.

  • Hahahaha, pvp in destiny has no dedicated servers period. This has even been acknowledged by bungo. Not sure where you heard your info but you're misinformed.

  • I'm, not sure where you got your information, but here is a link http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1022247/Shared-World-Shooter-Destiny-s to a presentation put on by Justin Truman, a BUNGiE programmer, detailing Destiny's Networked Mission Architecture that consists of "Activity Hosts" aka dedicated servers. According to Truman, "Activity Hosts are cloud-hosted machines that run a stripped down simulation of just our Mission Script logic.... By combining our Activity Hosts with traditional Peer-to-peer networking, we get the low latency action gameplay of a Call of Duty or Halo, while constantly seamlessly matchmaking you to new strangers." I think it is very clear that Destiny has dedicated servers based off of these facts.

  • This wasnt a reference to pvp and if you pay attention to the context of their dedicated servers its in reference to the destiny environment of pve. But no where is it specifically stated i this article that its about pvp specifically. Destiny WOULD need dedicated servers to run their abundance of strikes, missions, open worlds, and raids. But not once has anyone from bungie specifically said its for the benefit of pvp. I didnt say bungo didnt have dedicated servers i said they didnt have any in relation to pvp. I didnt watch the video but from prior interviews with multiple devs from bungie have repeatedly said they dont need dedicated servers after ttk dropped.

it is the same game on both sides (pve and pvp). There is not a separate net code dedicated to pve and another to pvp. The matchmaking system is the same on pve and pvp, just different playlists. The same reason why a balance patch effects both pve and pvp. There is one game, with one system running it. and I could really care less about your "argument". you really have no clue how the game is run, and I don't need to defend what I know as a fact. If this game turns into 100% dedicated servers, it will fail. there is no modern first person shooter that uses 100% dedicated servers, Do your homework, check some facts.

  • One example to start overwatch, gears of war (guessing you dont remember host being king in old days), CoD ranked, rainbow 6 seige ranked, BF1 ect. But i doubt that counts in your book huh? And thats not pvp dedicated, its emulating the game worl and environment. Pvp dedicated servers are meant for just that. They upload the specific maps, environments, and interactions between players. If you know so much about bungie servers and technologies why arent you stating specific limitations? I'll answer that, cuz you're playing devils advocate. Fact is every game that has dedicated servers for pvp, the experience becomes more rich.

  • overwatch is far from a first person shooter. Its first person, yes. First person shooter, no. Gears of war is not a first person shooter. You went from
destiny has no dedicated servers period.
to
Fact is every game that has dedicated servers for pvp, the experience becomes more rich.
in one thread enough said

  • Lol you didnt provide a single viable counter point. You're gonna argue that because they're not fps titles that a dedicated server for pvp is nonexistent. Look obviously you lack some form of debating skills or just basic conversational continuity in the context of main talking points. Enjoy spreading false info based on general programming articles that DO NOT support your arguements. Oh and PS based on your name alone you have no understandings of netcode, server allocations, or even cyber security basics. Enjoy sucking 😚

My previous response vividly exposes your ability to debate. You are obviously overly emotional and are incapable of having an intelligent conversation. Glad there is a mute feature.

  • No its not. It's host connection based. Destiny has the Halo 2 engine in it, which shockingly doesn't include dedicated servers

  • Destiny does not have the Halo 2 engine lol

  • Actually it does. Which is why dedicated servers aren't on it. They made destiny not knowing how it's popularity would grow, making the engine (the Halo 2 engine) inferior. I would stop arguing. Everyone is against you on this and I'm trying to be nice and tell you that you won't win. What Bungie says is far from facts (even though your arguments twist Bungies word for the sake of your argument) and if you trust them yet I feel bad.

  • There are no servers that run game logic, only matchmaking, which is how every peer to peer game has worked since 2003.

  • Cool. The truth behind the matter is that connections and servers are extremely complicated. This version of destiny is a testing ground for Destiny 2. For all we know all of the issues we are facing may be fixed, but they are just holding out to get their money which I feel they have a right to do. Don't forget, this game cost 1/2 billion to make. I highly doubt they would gamble that much of an investment solely on a P2P connection.

  • I was actually saying this earlier to someone. I understand that for this version of the game it was a new IP under a new publisher... I can see why they went with some form of peer to peer. However they did make their money back within minutes of its release. Not to mention rise of iron out sold vanilla, albeit at a lower price point. An improvement in network code as well as regional dedicated servers could most certainly benefit the multiplayer portion of the game. I stand firm on that.
