Destiny: Legend Untold, Chpt 11 Pt 4

Chapter Eleven: One Small Step for William, a Giant Tumble for Drew Part Four I looked out at the swarm of Fallen, noting that there were still a lot left. "Rush, give me Little Blue," I ordered. "Sure thing," he replied. My shotgun disappeared and was replaced by a massive gun, painted bright blue with streaks of orange moving along its long body. The ammo belt hung down from the clip opening and the bullets attached to it clattered against each other as it came into my hands, creating a small chorus of clinks that resembled those of bells. In my hands lay the heavy machine gun that I had bought from the Gunsmith a couple days ago and had been dying to use, loaded and ready. "You named your gun," Sierra said, holding back a laugh. I sighed. "It didn't have a proper name before," I told her, "And Little Blue is definitely better than a bunch of letters and numbers." "Hey, my rocket launcher is called Dragon's Breath, but I didn't name it that and I wouldn't use the name anyway. It's just a gun," Sierra scolded me. "Dragon's Breath for the dragon lady," I murmured quietly with a chuckle. "What was that?" Sierra growled. "Nothing! Sometimes a guy's just gotta have a special gun, and you have your hand cannon!" I yelled before running out of the Ward to confront the Fallen, not giving her a chance to respond. My machine gun roared to life, bullets spewing from its maw rhythmically, causing the gun to kick back into my arms with every powerful shot that tore through Fallen metal and flesh. Few Fallen had time to aim before being mowed down, so very few Arc bolts collided with my Force Barrier as I stood there, bodies dropping and Shanks exploding everywhere my aim fell until the clip ran dry. But then I popped open the belt holder and the empty belt thudded to the ground, another belt already in hand and being lifted to replace the previous one. A Captain shoved its way through the Dreg and Vandals, moving to attack me before I could reload. Rush indicated this Captain as the rank of Reaver, meaning it had proven itself tougher than other Captains and had a larger Ether supply for it. That extra strength it had from the Ether didn't let it last much longer than other Captains as I finished reloading and pulled the trigger while it was only halfway to me. It was halted as the first bullet hit, and a jolt shot through its body with every other bullet that hit it until it finally fell to the ground, dead. I emptied the rest of my clip trying to get the Fallen that were peeking out of cover, then switched back to my scout rifle. Sierra was shooting at the Fallen with only her forearms and guns sticking out of the Ward while Drew sidled up next to me. We dodged around in place a little, ducking and weaving to avoid being hit, and together kept the Fallen from grouping back up while Sierra picked off the tigger units among them, Arc rounds dissipating against the Ward right in front of her. I felt the flow of void that was supporting the Ward begin to slow to a trickle and knew it the Ward would vanish at any moment. "Getting comfortable back there?" I asked Sierra, a devious grin spreading across my lips underneath my helm. She took that as a taunt, apparently. "Yes," she snapped, "And I told you, I do what I want." It was at the exact moment she finished speaking that the Ward vanished, and I could only imagine how hilarious her expression was at that moment. Unfortunately, a Wire Rifle shot had been fired the instant before and it hit her in the side, making her recoil in pain. She ran to the side and dove behind a support column for the electric line that ran above us and let her Light heal the wound before peeking out and getting revenge on the Vandal that had shot her. It fell with Ether spewing out of its head, along with a few other Vandals that were next to it. "If you don't tell me when the bubble is disappearing again, your head is going to be blown off instead of the enemies'," Sierra growled at me. "Okay okay," I responded, holding back a laugh. Drew finally got tired of staying in one spot and rushed forward now that he didn't have to worry about being overwhelmed, me following right behind him while Sierra stayed back. A few Vandals leapt out to meet us but were downed immediately as my bullets pierced their skulls and Drew slammed into the rest with shoulder forward and body aglow with Arc energy. Drew then jumped up onto the roof of the nearest buried structure, for that was where most of the remaining Fallen were taking cover, but I spotted a purple glow coming out of the further structure and moved towards it. As I turned into the doorway to enter I was met with a large purple energy blast that knocked out my shield and caused me to stumble back. The Servitor floated just inside, its glowing optical sensor adjusting to take me in. The large violet sphere began floating forward and the optics adjusted again, this time releasing another glowing blast. I jumped straight up and the shot went right under me, and then I kicked my feet again in another jump as I had seen the other Guardians do and was launched even higher upward. But I couldn't stay oriented and ended up flipping over backwards and landing on my stomach on top of the Servitor as it made it out of the structure. It tried looking up to find me and I had to hook my feet on the edge of its optical sensor and grab one of the narrow indented strips going across its surface to keep from slipping off. My head dangled inches from the ground for a moment before the Servitor leveled its gaze again and started spinning, trying to shake me off. But it couldn't move very fast and I had a tight grip, so I removed one of my hands from the crevice and willed my shotgun into my hand. Planting the shotgun against its surface, I blasted through the outer shell and exposed some of the inner systems. After a few more trigger pulls, the Servitor letting out metallic cries that sounded like they were from a synthesizer with each shot, it was destroyed with a small detonation that flung me onto the ground. I got up with a grunt and reloaded my shotgun before having it disappear. Always best to be prepared. I looked over to my scout rifle laying on the ground several meters away and held out my hand towards it. Rush transmatted it to my hand for me and I muttered a quiet thanks. Then I heard footsteps on the roof above me and looked up to see a Dreg jumping down at me. It hit before I could raise my gun and I tumbled to the ground with it. Shoving the Dreg off, I hopped up and pointed my gun at it, but it just lay there, dead, with a small little dent in the side of its helmet. A cackle sounded above me and I looked up with a sigh to see Drew standing above me, doubled over with laughter. He had tossed that Dreg down at me. "This ain't the rodeo Will," he said between bursts of laughter, "They won't leave you alone just because you're riding a bucking Servitor." "But I thought this here WAS the rodeo," I responded in my best drawl, "And you're the clown." "I guess the rodeo has flying Dreg now," Drew literally fell on his butt laughing after saying that. "Look, if you guys are just going to be stupid, get off the coms," Sierra sighed, but I heard an amused note in her voice. "We do what we want," I chuckled. "I'm checking the beacon," Sierra huffed. Drew finally managed to stop laughing and lay flat on his back, staring at the stars. I jumped up onto the roof, landing a little shakily after using my midair jump, and laid down next to him. The Earth lay just above the horizon to our right, a beautiful blue orb splotched with brown, green, and white all over. A Golden Age space station drifted directly above us, broken pieces and shrapnel from its broken hull floating in the space around it. "I like looking at the stars," Drew told me. "Me too," I replied, nudging away a dead Vandal that lay uncomfortably close to me. "I want to go to every one of those stars and beat down anything that tries to attack the Light," Drew explained, pumping a fist in the air at the thought of a good fight. I looked at him with an amused smile before gazing back up at the stars. "I want to go to every one of those stars and learn all of their secrets," I told him, "I want to discover new technologies, new life, new places...I want to spread hope throughout those stars." It was silent for a moment as Drew processed what I had said, then he opened his mouth to speak. "What?" he inquired, "No fighting? And how do you learn a secret from a star? Does it just...tell you? Can they talk?" I let out a bark of laughter and looked to him again. "Stars can't talk, I just meant that some of the planets and other things around those stars have stuff that we can learn about." "Oh..." Drew mumbled, then chuckled a bit in embarrassment before we both went back to looking at the stars. "I want to go up there..." Sierra's voice joined in, and we switched our attention to hear what she thought about the stars, "To go up there and hit you two over the heads until you can't see those stars anymore! This is not a slumber party and I told you to keep that stupidity off of the coms! The beacon is in place so you lovebirds better get your butts down here!" "Yes ma'am!" Drew and I answered in sync as we hopped down and ran to the beacon, worried that she would react poorly to slowness. __________________________________ Pt 3:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/219174502/0/0 Pt 5:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/219174892/0/0
