Looking for legitimate tips on getting better in PvP - Specifically Trials

Just looking for pointers on how to get better in PvP. I'm not that great with the sniper but everyone tells me that the more you use it, the more you'll get the hang of it and become good with a sniper. I would like to go to the Lighthouse at some point, but I don't want to be carried, nor do I want to pay. I've never been to be quite honest. I know that Trials can be god awfully sweaty but in order to get to the lighthouse you have accept that part. Real pointers would be appreciated. None of this stupid DDoS BS and responding with "Git Gud" makes you look like a stupid moron. *Edit* I appreciate all the legitimate feedback guys. I'm liking it and I'm sure a lot of other people who may want pointers are liking reading this great information. :) *Edit* I may not respond to everything but I am reading every comment, good or bad.

    • As a sniper with a 2.9 trials kd. Ill say this. Find YOUR sniper. For me its a 1k stare tacsys scope, armor piercing rounds and firefly. Ive gotten soo many 2 for 1 shots with that gun. If youre new to sniping get one with aim assist til you get the hang of it. And try to stick with one type of scope the entire time. If youre truly dedicated youll soon start landing those shots on reaction time not aiming time

    • I'll pass on some of the tips that were given to me when I started playing Destiny and was god awful. 1. Learn the spawns and high traffic areas of every map. - sounds kind of obvious and dumb, but if you know where people will spawn once they're killed and where they are most likely to go afterwards you have a good idea of where you need to be to kill them again 2. Play smart, not flashy - be mindful of your advantages and disadvantages while you play - be aware of the available cover before and while you are in a fight and ALWAYS STAY NEAR COVER - be aware of the available sightlines you have from the positions you currently occupy on the map - be aware of your grenade, melee and super timer - be aware of where your enemy is and what the best place to engage them is, because not every position of the map is ideal to engage any other position 3. Learn to be a slippery bastard - yeah, if you can't win a fight, run away to fight another day or to bait the enemy into your team - people that know when to engage and disengage in a fight are anoying af to play against - be that guy 4. Stop running - fairly obvious, stop spawning and immediately running towards red on the radar. I can't tell you how many people I have killed solely because they were sprinting like crazy while I had my sights set on that sightline - take your time after the respawn to reorient yourself and make deliberate moves on the map - try not running in pvp matches for a week and you will notice that you die less and win more fights - sometimes all you need to do is stand in one spot and the enemy will come to you 5. Be pre-aimed and always go for head shots with your primary - not very obvious, but a lot of the great pvp players don't use a high sensitivity in pvp, but they are prepaired for engagements and don't need to turn around a lot 6. Know your tools - be aware of what ranges your weapon selectio is effective at - don't crossmap people with a hand cannon or AR and then cry "ghost bullets" - don't go into cqc fights with a slow fire rate scout rifle - don't try to use snipers in cqc, no matter what people tell you Well, that's it so far...

      • Become one with the radar. Learn how it works in every way then learn how to watch it while in a gunfight.

I'm a pretty strong player but used to really struggle to hold a good kd. The way i improved was as follows: 1. Pick up a shotgun, put away the hardscope. Use primary as your first port of call and shotguns if/when you can close distance on people. 2. Watch streamers who play this playstyle, take tips on how they use the map/landscape to their advantage, how they close distance on enemies etc. 3. Try to play with some more experienced/better players to understand their thought process - a game like trials is a lot more about tactics, timing and map positioning than raw gun skill. Im not the most fantastic player but I'm around top 1k, if you'd like to play some games add me on psn (hbozz). 4. Play on reasonably high sensitivity so you can react quickly. 5. Never start or stay in a gun fight if the opposition has the upper hand - don't be afraid of running/getting cover, repositioning yourself and reengaging. 6. Always try to isolate opponents - even the best players can't win 1v3 gun fights with primary weapons. 7. Practice practice practice. As I said I'm happy to try and help you learn, just send me a friends request if ur on psn

            • Learn to jump and shoot constantly when your not covering a high traffic area from a distance. Enhance your gun skill to perfectly pre aim as you come around corners.
I can't seem to get these things down thus I'll be forever slightly above average.
• My best piece of advice would be to play to your play style and play with others who's play styles work with yours. For example, I play a little more conservative, but I'll push up to help keep pressure, so I do best when I run with at least one aggressive person who can push, because then I can offer support and keep the pressure on.

            • I'm going to give some collective advice that I've tried to adhere to over the past couple of months and weeks that I've been trying to really polish up on in PVP. I am no legend but I think I will place myself in the "above average" category and IF I'm consistent I can be deadly. With that said, in no particular order of importance: 1) Map Knowledge. Self explanatory. 2) don't be afraid to run away, restore health, then re-engage. Especially in trials. 3) use what works for you. A primary, shotty, sniper, sensitivity, subclass, etc. 4) Mobility. Being agile and out-maneuvering your opponents will win you battles more often than gun skill itself. I.e. Jumping, sliding, baiting doors. 5) acknowledge when you die and or get outplayed. See how you died, and say, okay, I will try to not let that happen again, and learn. 6) Don't sit on your super. A super used for a kill is a kill you didn't have. You will get it back. If you sit on a super waiting for the "recordable clip" kill, you are hindering your KD and also that's orb(s) you could be making for your teammates. I know this varies in trials but if you're getting kills, you can get a super 2-3 times in a game of Trials/Elim. I think these are major points of emphasis IMO. After you get these sorts of things down, it comes down to landed your shots, placing your grenades, and connecting your supers. Good luck man. Hope it helps.

              • I've never really gotten into trials as much as I would like, but the one time I hit 5 wins on a card, was because we stopped to think and communicate. We noticed that teams have strategies, some are aggressive, some are tied to holding strategic points that are easy to defend and others were just a mess. When it came to highly aggressive teams marauding around with Max agility and shotguns, we had a damn tough time until we figured out their routes. That was the trick, learning what the enemy relied on and then taking it away from them. It was the only success I had and was satisfying enough knowing that we bested some people, especially in the tougher pvp mode. When you face cheaters, not much can be done there, except getting -blam!-ed.

                • consistency is key. There are a lot different tips that can be pointed out. & there are a lot of things that can be done to improve. But consistency is something that's extremely important in destiny in general. Consistently winning 1s, consistently using the advice you take in, consistently winning matches, to consistently playing well. First thing I'd say is pick a particular subclass you want to excel on, & stick with it. For a couple weeks solid at the bare minimum. I've been playing Storm since it's release. Mained Voidwalker all of Y1 & just loved the idea of Storm since I first saw it back at E3 with TTK showing... Running the same subclass will get you comfortable. You'll learn the ins & outs of it ; every advantage & disadvantage...it'll become muscle memory. If you're really trying to improve I suggest against swapping classes//subclasses for awhile. After that, run the meta. Who cares what anybody says. If you want to improve, you want to be using things that are proven to be highly effective. Legendary HCs - any preference. Vendor palindrome is great hit-reg. Any HC of that archetype with rifled//reinforced is worth using. None are particular better than the next for the most part between slight differences in base stats. high RoF pulse rifles - Blind Pedition, Hawksaw, PDX-45. Or the next archetype up - Clever Dragon, Grasp, Waltz. These are the most forgiving & overall effective primaries right now for the average player. But HCs are the best if you've taken the time to master them. Snipe or shotty. Yes, you can be effective w. Side arms & fusions too ; but it's obviously no secret that shotties & snipers are the dominant specials for several reasons. Choose what you enjoy the most. Both of which are equal given you take the time to master them. Make sure you choose your subclass accordingly though. Some go better w. Shotties, some work better with snipers. Shotty right now is widely considered the meta. But sniping is just as lethal if you practice...particularly in 3s & Trials specifically. Your radar is your friend...it's not a crutch, you're not trash for relying on it. Reading your radar efficiently is something that you have to be able to do. Never ADSing too much so you can't get flanked. After you establish those base things it's about experience. Make sure you get into the crucible at least for a couple matches every day if possible. I know a lot of us are busy, but playing daily will lead to improvement. Like I said, even if it's only briefly some days. The thing about destiny, is that it's all about movement. Every class//some subclasses have their own unique movements...master it. Use vertical space...jumping up above doors, using different approaches both high and low in every single engagement, staying unpredictable with directional jump+bones. Swift direction changes with twilight//shadestep... Movement is 100% one the most important things to focus on... Make sure you don't have your special out too often....primary is good ; primary will bet you a lot more kills than attempting to ape everybody with a shotgun or quickscope every enemy you see.. I'd also say staying mobile is something pretty important. Camping is shit. Yeah, it can net you some kills against blueberries. But staying unpredictable & on the move is something that'll net you even more... Build your stats around your play style. I run T12 instead of an artifact w. Perks because I got way too used to the advanced radar. & I enjoy having the 12 tiers. I run 5/2/5 because I like int/str on Storm. If you don't melee a lot or you're a sniper, then I'd say build around Int/dis. Kno what I mean.? Specifically for Trials, I'd suggest trying to get a solid team together that you enjoy playing with...no matter what it comes down to, the game is still about fun. Communication is important for Trials. & moving together as a team without holding each other's hands is something that'll go a LONG way...catching angles, yet preventing double nades/supers and things like that. Improving is a bunch of different small things that you need to start utilizing at the same time. Things that you have to start doing every single game, every single round...like I said; consistency. It's not easy to start doing all the tips you'll receive all at once...if you can't, DONT FRET IT... Improvement is not something that comes overnight. It takes time and practice dude... Just take one or two tips at a time & constantly remind yourself every couple of second to make sure you're aware of it every game...until it eventually becomes muscle memory. Man, there are a lot of different things I could say that I think would help someone improve...but these are a few of which I think are probably most important. I might've missed something, most likely, but they're great places to start... some of the stronger things right now are Striker, Stormcaller, Voidwalker, Nightstalker... People's opinions will always vary on what's strong or "OP", or trash and underpowered...so take it all with a grain of salt. All of this just my opinion on what I think will help you improve if you integrate them into your every-day gameplay. Good luck, & I hope that you truly do see some improvements.

                  • I've been trying to help my friends improve with trials and have come up with some things to help them. 1. Make sure you like your sensitivity and it fits what style of play you like 2. Play LOTS of 3v3 and rumble. Rumble for improving my survivability and 1v1 potential. 3v3 for teamwork. 3. Try to find a group you like to play with. I have a group I've been playing with for two years and we go flawless VERY easily. We have had cards that are 27-0 4. Work on escaping and relaxing during a clutch. It is SO much easier to help someone through trials who just stays alive rather than rushes in, gets one kill and dies. 5. Find your niche. Do you like sniping? Get really good at it. Like shot gunning? Pull RT. 6. Watch YouTube videos. If you want to snipe, go watch Mtashed, true vanguard, and kjhovey. Like shotguns? Watch nkuch 7. Relax, you game is easily thrown out of the window if you can't get nerves under control. 8. If you get nervous easily DONT look up stats. Hearing even moderate KDs can stress some people out. 9. Have fun! It's the biggest thing to remember. If you start getting heated and not enjoying it, take a 5 minute break or better take a run, the effects of chemicals produced after doing exercises have shown to improve your mood and even make you more aware. 10. Last, take breaks. The longer you play, the more tilt will come into play. Have fun!
