Do they honestly believe that nobody actually checks the location of the people they connect with?

After reading the wonderful info in the TWAB, I was excited to see where my "best connections" really are on the map. The first person added to my match? 3,762mi away from me in Belgium. It took the game approx 2 seconds to determine this was a great connection for me.
I could understand if the game just happened to ping this guy and check his connection to me. No, he hung in there through the 2/12, 5/12, 8/12,... all the way to the end of matchmaking/start of the match. Also note, they decided to add Brazil to the match (4,499mi away from me).
I live in NY, USA and the highest quality connections with me include players 3,762mi and 4,499mi away from me on different continents? CB/SBMM debates aside,... seriously???
Bungie 11/17/16: "Connection quality is always the highest priority factor in Destiny matchmaking"
👍👍
Edit: This wasn't a post crying about having a bad match. I finished the match fine with the aid of some "lag strategies". I posted it to show that everything isn't working the way they tell us, and also to inform them with a visual aid (as if they weren't already aware) that their system isn't working as intended.
In this match I was able to adjust and keep my distance from the few "laggy" players. My bigger concern is, what about the outliers in this match? The Belgian and Brazilian players? Could they "adjust" to 10-11 laggy players? They could have easily been any one of us in a random match. The reality is that I was most likely one of the Belgian players better connections. What was this match like for him, or the Brazilian player?
Im sure there's a much bigger picture to all of this than we can comprehend. Add in a pre-made fireteam spanning the globe and finding a great, crisp, and local match for each of them becomes nearly impossible. I just hate to read something stating "connection quality... highest priority" and then jump into a game as a solo player and find my first "quality connection" match within 2 seconds, is a solo player nearly 4K miles from me on another continent with a ping that was at best 200+ms during the match (at times reaching 400-600).
Many of us really do love this game and would just prefer honesty to what we've been reading lately. I know many people would love to read an update stating "Hey guys, here's the reality... Due to design, logistics, and the code this game was built upon, were at a loss in making noticeable improvements to your experience. Please stay with us as we roll out multiple updates over the next few weeks as we search for something better".
Oh well, whatever... here's to hoping for a fix that works as well as a BS free update.
35 RepliesGuys, calm down. Destiny is only around for less than a year. Destiny 2 is most likely going to be a major improvement. Just ride out the storm for now, or don't play. Honestly. Bungie is not going to spend a lot of time, money, and resources on a game that is going to be irrelevant in 10 months.
