I still can't wrap my head around the idea that a lot of americans don't want social healthcare. I mean why the hell not? It's totally normal in europe and there's is not really anybody who argues against it. Weird.

Social health care is easier when you don't occupy a huge landmass and have a population in excess of 300 million. And please, don't cite China.
-
Yeah china is another case.
-
Because America is built on the philosophy of "-blam!- you, I got mine"
-
-
I want to pay for my healthcare not someone else's healthcare which is where all the money goes to.
-
Because if you really knew anything about their health care system you would realize it has just as many if not more flaws than the old American one. Also the healthcare we have now was really good for SOME people but also really bad for other people.
-
I'm not very familiar with the current american hcs. What are the pros and cons?
-
It makes health care available to everyone which is fantastic but a lot of people can no longer afford it. It got more expensive for a lot of people. It forces people to buy health care even if they don't want it and they have to pay a fine if they don't. Although the fine is cheaper than the insurance so a lot of people just take the lesser of two Evils
-
The fine is actually 10% of total income.
-
Is it the same for everyone?
-
Yep 10%of total income for the fine.
-
There is actually a cap on the penalty. Last year it was 2000 per household. I haven't seen what it is this year. Luckily I have an Indian card so I am exempt from Obama care. However, the Indians health care system is a joke. It is barely a step up from not having insurance. Found it: For tax year 2016, the penalty will rise to 2.5% of your total household adjusted gross income, or $695 per adult and $347.50 per child, to a maximum of $2,085. Oct 31, 2016

I stand corrected thanks for the correction. Still that is alot of money. Who says you can't learn something from offtopic.
Still that is alot of money.
Yeah it is!
I stand corrected thanks for the correction. Who says you can't learn something from offtopic.
No problem, this info falls in my wheelhouse!

Oh for the fine. Ok here in austria you have to pay a tax for the social system but it depends on how much you earn. But there is no escape, just like from destiny.:D
-
The actual system depends on the tier insurance you want. Bronze bare bones, silver medium of the road and gold the best and most expensive one. All cover stuff people don't need or want. It has become so unaffordable that most people can't get any healthcare now. Plus rates triple and quadruple in January so alot more people won't be able to afford it. Heck prices are getting so high most people are paying more for healthcare than their house payments!
-
Ok then that system does need a rework.
-
Most definitely, I'm finally about to graduate from college I'd at least like to see some of my paycheck when I start working T_T
-
Ok that fine is kinda stupid. But a hcs only works if all people contribute to it. Here in austria you dont have a choice other than to contribute to it. Actually youre employer already pays that tax, so you never have that money in youre hands. Wich is kinda good.
-
There just needs to be a better system in the us. They pushed it through too fast
-
Yeah it seems like it. A leading country like the us should have a good social hcs.
-
It's a very hard thing to do in the US because so many want little to no government involvement. Americans are very untrustworthy of their own government.
-
Yeah here in europe you always get the impression that americans are some sort of hardliners when it comes to their personal space. With all that "stand youre ground" shit and so on. I think government involvement isn't always necessarily a bad thing. Depends on the situation/subject of course.
-
Americans are afraid of tyranny. That's why they fight so hard to keep the second amendment.
-
I can't really get the root of that fear. I mean america was never under control of some regime or some sort. Amendments good and right but sometimes amendments have to be looked upon if they're outdated. Happens in almost every lawsystem. Of course the process is long and hard but time moves forwards not backwards. And with looked at i don't mean terminate it completly, just changes which are more appropriate to the time we live in.
