I've noticed that any mission showing a light level instead of a character level does not keep checkpoints, which kept me from using Paradox for my Venus section of the loop (it was the only mission I could think of on Venus where killing the ultra was not the end of the mission). Instead I had to use the gatelord, and just jump to orbit as soon as it dropped.
