I think a lot of the blame for ToO's toxicity can be laid at the doorstep of the community. Bungies apparent slowness to deal with booters is also an issue from where I sit. They need to get on top of that somehow. I like the idea of there being a goal only a few will attain. Its just a shame so much of the community responds by cheating and charging, as opposed to simply co-operating. Such is the way of this generation 😒

  • Disagree. The blame lays at the foot of Bungie....but not for slow response time. But for failing to understand that what you are now seeing ALWAYS happens to communities when you drop winner-take-all competitions (or other exclusionary means by which to distribute desired resources) into their midst. They divide communities...and create "haves" and "have-nots". With the have-nots feeling cheated...and often willing to resort to cheating and other equally destructive means by which to try to redress their greivances.... ..and the have start to feel entitled and will often lord what they have over others as evidence of their "superiority"....which just throws gasoline on the fire of the resentment of the have-nots. At age 48, I'm too old to care about not having Trials loot....or never seeing the Lighthouse. But most of the people who play this game are kids...and this stuff matters to them. ...and I predicted that Trials would become this way when I saw the effect it was having on the community in its first few weeks....and how quickly a "Cult of Flawless" established itself...and how quickly it became a skin cancer on the face of the game. I bailed....and never looked back. But I said even then, that eventually----as long as Trials allowed the strong to prey upon the weak, and then lord it over on them-----that the community would eventually withdraw its support. ..and the "strong" would be left as Kings over a realm that no one wants to be. Eventually even them. You can already start to see this happening. Mtashed just put out a video, that absolutely savages what Trials has become (just from a gameplay stand point), and is threatening to stop participating. ..and if one of your best, most high-profile players is threatening to withdraw his support.....you have an event that is in MAJOR trouble. Trials is dying. Its just dying a slow, agonizing, cancer-riddled death.

  • Good, trials has been a disaster since year 2, I loved playing trials but once they changed the matchmaking it went downhill fast. I really hope they get rid of it altogether and while their at it put normal crucible matchmaking back to year 1 standard.

  • So what you're saying is Bungie's faith in the gaming community was misplaced?

  • In a sense, yes. Expecting large groups of people to act at variance with human nature was naive and misguided. Individuals are unpredictable. Large groups of people tend to be very predictable.
