Trials is the top tier competitive PVP mode for Destiny. It's supposed to be difficult. I played trials the last couple weeks and although frustrating at times its also fun. I'm not good, but the friends I play with are. I'm slowly getting better however which in itself is satisfying. We haven't made it to the lighthouse yet but I know someday we will.

 • Trials is by design not a competitive game mode. The idea of going flawless is in of itself not a competitive concept. Trials and the Lighthouse is all about beating players that are lesser than you. This is not what competition is about, and I can't believe how many people in this game, or rather this forum, believe that it is. I really don't care either way. The lighthouse means nothing to me. I have no ambition to ever go there and it doesn't bother me. However there are a lot of people in this forum mouthing off about this idea that Trials is some godsend game mode from the gods of competitiveness. These people, they really need to learn the meaning of the word competitive and maybe experience what competing really is all about. For trials to really be a competitive game mode, it would be designed to make the best go up against the best. As it stands it is designed for the best to go up against the average, and that is not what competitiveness is about.

 • But aren't you matched against teams with the same amount of wins?

 • Sometimes, that is not the point though. What do you do if you are matched up against a better team with a 8-0 card. You loose that match and you start over, until you get a team that is lesser than you. This is not what the spirit of competition is about. Lets do it one better. If trials was designed so that the best players got to face each-other then there would be no such thing as a 3-5 K/D nor 70% win%. Why? You may ask. Well because if the people with those stats faced off against eachother they would more than likely be close to evenly matched and their stats would look more like 1.0 K/D 50% win%. Yes some people will always dominate, but real competition is not about wiping the floor with your opponent. No real competition has numbers like that. The only reason that these "best" players can obtain such numbers is because most of the time they are fighting the average people that go into trials to do bounties. This is also the only reason these "best" players can do carry runs. Going flawless in Trials might be one of the hardest PVP challenges for an average player. However that does not mean it is in any way competitive and telling yourself and people around you that it is, does not make it any more so.
