Couple of debates going on here, as always when it comes to trials: 1. Elitist sweaties vs. self-entitled scrubs 2. Full on hardcore SBMM vs. less or no SBMM My opinion on Trials is pretty basic: Going flawless in Trials is meant to hard - it's an achievement. That means a couple of things: 1. Buying the game doesn't mean you are owed a trip to The Lighthouse, you special little snowflake, you. You are owed nothing more than an opportunity to compete, like everyone else. Shut up and deal with it. 2. Repeatedly going flawless in a week doesn't mean you are a Trials God, you elitist prick. It means that the system is broken and you are not being evenly matched. Shut up and own that shit. 3. Carries are a major flaw in Trials, Bungie-head-in-the-sand-as-usual devs. I don't care about it being done for profit or about a scrub getting a beetle emblem he didn't 'earn.' But, what it does is place and keep professional players in Trials every week, all week, resulting in many losses for non-professional players that otherwise wouldn't have occurred, along with all of the salt and divisiveness that brings. For the record, I don't care much for trials. Played maybe 2 cards in TTK and now 3 of the 5 I need for the RoI record book. As I am a poor PvP player I do appreciate the bounties - it makes the time I put in (getting curb stomped repeatedly) seem a bit worthwhile, although everything but the gold tier just gave me resources and other crap. Gold gave me gauntlets. So, bottom line - I will never see The Lighthouse because I'm not good enough to go flawless. And that's ok. I also have some integrity so I will never accept a carry to go flawless. And that same integrity is what would also stop me from being an elitist prick and demanding to not have to play my equals, rather than a series of scrubs, if I was good enough to go flawless.

  • Maybe they should raise it to 7, 10, 15, or 25 wins in a row to get to the lighthouse? That would separate the wheat from the chaff.

  • But what of those of us that can go 7-0 or 8-0 and consistently lose to cheaters/streamers/ and those that are so good, that you put it, break the system that we shouldn't have gone up against them in the first place? I've gone 7-0 or 8-0 so many times. Haven't played much trials in roi but I've tried my hand. Light level is too low really

  • The only thing I think you're wrong about is saying carries keep good players in all weekend. Even if twitch wasn't a thing, I think most of the elite players would stay in trials all weekend.

  • Possibly. But if Bungie cracked down on the people charging to carry, that would put an end to quite a few. I've seen people advertise carries for cash on these very forums, FFS! Also, if flawless were either limited to a certain number of runs per Trials, or matched with others flawless after achieving flawless a certain number of times per Trials, that would pretty much solve the problem. The real problem is the 'professionals' who carry for cash, for 'donations,' or for self-glorification on their streams. Surely you see how that's breaking Trials for all the rest of us non-pros?

  •
Also, if flawless were either limited to a certain number of runs per Trials, or matched with others flawless after achieving flawless a certain number of times per Trials, that would pretty much solve the problem.
Limiting the # of runs would piss off most of the community, not just streamers. & making a flawless tier leads to a bunch of unnecessary complications that will cause more problems than they solve.
The real problem is the 'professionals' who carry for cash, for 'donations,' or for self-glorification on their streams. Surely you see how that's breaking Trials for all the rest of us non-pros?
If you were good enough to beat them, you wouldn't care. A very small percentage of the community does carries, & they're putting themselves at a disadvantage by doing it.

Lol they put ToO in the book because not enough players play it. XD bet the idea was going to get trashed in D2.

  • Oh, I guarantee it. Plus it will bring enough weaker players back into the event to make it easier for the regular players to get to the light house. But this is what happens when you have exclusionary, winner-take-all compeititons. Their effect on a community is divisive. Only the "best" get anything out of it....so the rest of the community stops showing up to play, and eventually withdraw their support for it. So this thread is symptomatic of a MUCH larger problem.

  •
Lol they put ToO in the book because not enough players play it. XD bet the idea was going to get trashed in D2.
I suspected this too. Rmember when Bungie use to post news about Trials hotzones? How they tried to make it this big thing? How they constantly tried to encourage people to play it? Even though they would say its completely optional and intended for the best of the best. Now that I write it down...you'd think that with it designed for "the best of the best" it would have SBMM built in... I digress... Now they never post the Hotzones. (because they are all basically the same.) Never post about team makeups. I believe during a breakdown of content run by the playerbase they omitted Trials, as Trials and Raids do not get experienced by the extreme majority of the playerbase. Tossing it in The ROI book was a bad call. Basically trying to boost Trials numbers. Ironically its just hurt the integrity of Trials as it has created more "suicide" teams than it has legit teams.

  • I dismantled all 1000 of my passage coins today. Mistake?.....nah. Even if they change ToO im not playing it. It's just not worth the time.

  • Yes, once I complete the RoI record book requirement I won't be darkening the door of Trials again either.

  • Exactly. Now you have players taking about it a lot, good and bad. They just need to change it or scrap it imo, or don't put it in book to get more numbers. Really made me feel like -blam!- you bungie when I saw it in the book.

But hell, it's not going to help. You can force someone eat a turd sandwich 5 times, but that doesn't mean they will choose to eat a sixth . . .
