  • But that doesn't make any sense. Why would Oryx want to shut them in cells if they were the the same as the Worm Gods? The other thing is that the young worms the Hive are given are referred to as larvae. If you'll notice, that's something relating to insects. Dragons and their kin, based on mythology, generally lay eggs. This would make their young hatchlings and not larvae. I'm under the belief the Ahamkara are another race that are host to the worm larvae. When the Ahamkara bones are talking, it's actually the larvae that still resides within it.

  • Keep in mind play on words as wyrm is old English for dragons

  • The species that is using the worms the same as them. Not the worms.

  • He still has to pay tribute to his worm that infected him, otherwise the Hive's entire purpose wouldn't make sense.

  • Worms? You sure? I'm pretty sure they're dragons

  • Wyrms, an ancient spelling of a type of dragon. Given colloquialisms and phonetic dialect alterations, its possible they're one and the same. 😉

  • So did he just accidentally make a theory? That the Worm Gods Auryx and her sisters made a deal with are actually Ahamkara?

Its viable. I'll look into the etymology more. According to the Picto Indo European root, wrmi (pronounced as wurm in Old English) means serpent, snake, reptile, dragon. Strangely, I keep coming across references to Orochi - Japanese dragon deities that were wise and granted wishes but were killed by Susanoo (links to warlocks, anyone?). Also strangely, Fáfnir as a dwarf in Norse mythology. The strongest and most aggressive of three brothers, he was changed into a dragon (Old Norse: ormr, pronunciation wyrm) in the Volsunga Saga and then slain by Sigurd. Are there any parallels I can draw between these three brothers and three worm gods? I'll read more on it. Haven't read that one in a while.

  • I think you may be on to something there, I'll look into the Susanoos and see if there's a link or Bungie just pulled a name from old myths

I'm compiling a list now but there are phrases very similar on both Ahamkara armour and Grimoire cards pertaining to Hive. They're not found anywhere else. Young Ahamkaras Spine - "Give me your arm, oh bearer mine..." V: Needle and Worm - "...listen closely, oh vengeance mine." Sealed Ahamkara Grasps mention auditory hallucinations. Sathona mentions the dead worm speaking to her. Definitely think we're onto something.

  • I agree. There's just too many connections and I wouldn't doubt Bungie on being this smart or doing something like this. Also, I think the reason Bungie used Susanoo as the name is because he's a God of the sea, the exotic scout rifle for Warlocks is Tlaloc, which is the Aztec God of the sea, and Warlocks being the ones to channel and harness energy like a water bender would, it makes sense, but Susanoo did kill a dragon, so there may be a link.

  • One of the gods associated with Tlaloc is Huitzilopochtli. Read the first paragraph under History as it mentions a "constant struggle with darkness and required nourishment in the form of sacrifices". I can't copy and paste sadly as I'm on a tablet. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huitzilopochtli

  • Hmm... He's wielding what looks like a reptile and it deals with fire. One of the myths about dragons is that they breath fire, so alright, maybe something bigger. As well, in the legend of Susanoo, he fights with his sister, a sun god. So maybe it might be connected in some way.

  • https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Aztec_gods_and_supernatural_beings Looking like there are links with the four deities of the cardinal points. Interesting, certainly. Do you think its worth making a whole other thread for info gathering and thoughts?

So I was reading over some other responses, and someone was talking about how it was min all Warlocks and some Hunters that went on the Great Ahamkara Hunt. Susanoo killed a dragon and is the name of a gun used by a class who hunted dragon like creatures. There's our connection.

  • There's a link on Gheleons Grimoire card, that he had bones of Ahamkara in his dwelling. One of those Aztec gods was also known as bone-dweller or something like that. Connections are starting to pop up.

  • Read the grimoire "I'd shut them all in cells!" It's made pretty clear the Amakhara (sp), and the worms are one and the same.

  • Read it and it can be used to make any argument. I can say Oryx is pissed that another race worships the Worm Gods and have found a way to get around the larvae inside of them and Oryx hates them for it. Boom, just made that Grim card work in my favor.

  • Yea, if you just make stuff up haha. It's pretty clear the worms and the amakhara are the same. They both speak the exact same way and offer powers at a price. "Oh bearer mine", the great hunt..

  • We never hear the Ahamkara speak, only the bones. The bones use speech similar to the worms which heavily implies the Ahamkara are another race with the larvae. Since minions of the Deep with strong sword logic cannot truly be killed within the physical realm, this means the larvae would still be active within the corpse in our realm waiting for the creature to be reborn.

  • Read the card, our gods, the worms are the Hive gods. Description is of a dragon.
