This goes for game consoles, phones, and just about any other devices. I have 2 friends at work that swear that apple and google add special shit to their new updates to slow down and mess up older phones, just so that you run out and buy the new phone.
I haven't found any proof on this, but what do you think? If it's true, do you think M$ and Sony do the same thing with consoles in any way?

Planned obsolescence is a real thing anyway. Products (especially mobile phones/tablets etc.) are often designed to begin declining in performance after 12-18 months in order to urge you to upgrade to the next model. It'd make sense if they added updates that do the same on top of that.
