This goes for game consoles, phones, and just about any other devices. I have 2 friends at work that swear that apple and google add special shit to their new updates to slow down and mess up older phones, just so that you run out and buy the new phone.
I haven't found any proof on this, but what do you think? If it's true, do you think M$ and Sony do the same thing with consoles in any way?

I've thought the same thing. My iPhone 4g sometimes has pulled out of apps I'm in and gets glitchy from time to time...but I've also looked at it like this, these phones are essentially computers that we leave on 24/7 and I can almost bet that if we were to turn the phones off every night before bed like we do with our pc's and consoles that the phones lifespan would dramatically improve. Very few things were intended to last a lifetime.
-
My iPod 4g can barely run safari. Or a web page in general. Can't fap for a while then.
-
No, it's just that new updates may only work with new systems. The iPhone 3 for example can't play a lot of games on the App Store because they are more demanding for the hardware.
-
wouldnt be surprised if that was the case
-
There are lots of people that refuse to update from windows 7 still
-
iPhone 5s Performance has been faster but it's still at a respectable speed after all these years
-
Oh no, it's no secret.
-
If it's actually happening Apple would be the company most likely doing it.
-
It's true. Older phones don't have the hardware to keep up with new updates. That's why they run slow.
-
It might look like they are, but you have to take into consideration that new operating systems for devices are built for more powerful hardware. Phones in particular have come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years and operating systems are doing the same.
-
Makes them slower, so when the new phone comes out u have to get it cuz it seems faster than the one u have.
-
Absolutely. Money doesn't talk it swears; obscenity, who really cares; propaganda all is phony.
-
You won't find any evidence supporting this from companies, but it's obvious that it happens. Companies tweak the updates to be less and less compatible with older hardware until they stop releasing updates for it.
-
I think it happens with Apple stuff in particular. The updates only go back so far, all apps are optimized for the new update, then they act like shit on your older OS, so you're forced to upgrade.
-
Planned obsolescence is a real thing anyway. Products (especially mobile phones/tablets etc.) are often designed to begin declining in performance after 12-18 months in order to urge you to upgrade to the next model. It'd make sense if they added updates that do the same on top of that.
-
Probably true.
-
Totally man. My iPhone 6 Plus has been on the fritz since the 7 came out.
-
Apple and nvidia have been caught doing it.
-
It's called "planned obsolescence".

Edited by Trestero: 10/12/2016 10:57:34 PMNot quite design. They just very intentionally decide at a point to start caring less (a lot less quite often) about optimizing for the old version's hardware. Whether this is appropriate varies by case but it usually seems unnecessary in the case of phones and tablets.
-
Definitely happens on apple products. I've experienced this multiple times
-
I have all witcher 3 dlc and yesterday i thought maybe i would finally try it but when i loaded an update it said i dont have any dlc even though they are all loaded on manager :(
-
Yes, it's called planned obsolescence.
-
Edited by Ktulu: 10/12/2016 3:11:51 PMYes Apple does it. That's why when you jailbreak the phone it lasts alot longer. Gets rid of the stupid software that makes your phone run slower and what not.
-
Yes. Since software comes out for all versions of the phone like for example: Phone 1 (oldest) Phone 2(newest) Companies don't always make updates different for each device so sometimes older devices like phone 1 can't operate correctly with the new updates because of hardware limitations. While phone 2 works completely fine. It's just like how old people can't always adapt to knew technology because of their old brain unlike how younger kids.
-
I wouldn't be suprised if many companies did this
