I ran into "that guy" yesterday

Soooo I'm sitting here wanting to do the raid on my third character. 3 hours until reset. I was looking for some people on lfg of course cause none of my friends stay up that long. It should be pretty easy to find a group cause I'm a 373 light and people tend to want 370+ a lot. And I ran across a group on lfg saying this is our first time but we know what to do. And I thought screw it I've been sitting here for 10 minutes looking for a group so I'll try this group. I joined and they were all 362-366's. So I thought "well this is gonna be bad." Well it wasn't. These people were amazing and it was all their first runs. And they did know what to do cause they apparently used YouTube to find it all out. We ran through the first boss on our second try which is very surprising for their first time. Ran through Zamboni on our first try. All in 30-45 minutes. Not only that but they were really nice and unique people. One guy had a Russian accent and called us all brothas everytime on callouts. They were funny as hell too. They kept going with jokes throughout the raid and we all had our laughs. Now when we got to the final boss it took about 5 tries to get phase 1 done but that's alright and we were all positive about it throughout the whole thing saying gg and nice try we'll get them next time. We started phase 2 and I was surprised by how many dps we were doing. First round we got his health right between a and r everytime. We didn't beat it tho. People kept making mistakes here and there and we didn't even get mad. We just all laughed it off when someone fell off with his scorch cannon on the fifth round. We were at it for about an hour and we kinda just called it a night. No one left without saying anything. They just said it was all fun but they need to sleep cause they got work tomorrow and stuff and we all said GG. Now here's where it gets -blam!-ed up. I stayed up and went to look for a group cause I still had about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half. I went on lfg and found a group saying must be 370+ with emblem. Well I joined figuring we would get it done fast. As soon as I join the party some kid goes "you got a -blam!-ing mic?" I said yes and he was like ok. I joined the game and they were all 374 to 384. They were quiet for like a whole 2 minutes. They told me to get middle and use storm trance for captain. I did that and I didn't mess up and I did what I was supposed to do. I called it out when I was empowered. I didn't hear other people call out the servitors or who's empowered. No one had the right side so we failed and wiped and they all started screaming in the mic insulting each other. Keep in mind they were adults. Only one kid. We kept going and we kept messing up and I stayed because I had this stupid thought in my head. "They're all 370's so I have to stay we can beat this." Well bullshit. We kept failing and the worst part is they kept shooting the boss but did horrible dps. It only went between c and h. We failed once because we didn't do enough dps. And then another time we were on the last round and I was empowered, I slammed but when I did the boss launched me across the map and I died. Which never happened to me and I figured it happened cause I jumped after slamming. Cause whenever I don't jump after slamming it never happens. So keep in mind when you slam just walk off the boss and do dps don't jump especially if your a warlock floating in mid air. So since I died this kid goes "we didn't do enough dps cause he died he just -blam!-ed it all up for us." Which shocked me cause that was my first mistake and everyone makes mistakes and I didn't know I could get launched off. But one other guy in the party who was mostly quiet the entire time spoke up and said "it wasn't his fault man you need to chill it's a game." The kid replied with "shut the -blam!- up dude I don't care." Next few rounds that quiet dude messed up FOR THE FIRST TIME and didn't slam when the boss teleported right. Which is fine cause everyone hesitates every once in a while and I knew that was his first mistake so I wasn't mad. Now here's the part that disgusts me. He said "sorry guys my bad." And everyone replied with "yeah your bad." And everyone left the party one by one saying their final words before they leave like "you guys suck" and "-blam!- you all" and "go to hell." Everyone left except that quiet dude and we just sat there having a conversation about how harsh they were. Funny thing is this guy has been doing good too. He was the 384. He did the most dps everytime and killed his captain fast. He was the leader of the fire team. He did talk a lot he just spoke in a low volume. Or maybe he didn't maybe it's just me cause no one seem'd to have a problem hearing his callouts. We sat there talking about how some people in this community are really assholes and they don't even communicate and they blame it on other people. We just said "oh well" at the fact that the reset is in 5 minutes. We added each other and he said we should definitely do the raid some day considering me and him did the highest dps. So yeah I didn't beat the raid on my third character but it's fine cause I did a big portion of it and got enough loot to infuse for my main hunter to make him 376. But my mind was off of that. I was mad about the fact that people really just don't have hearts in this game sometimes. I honestly don't care about light level anymore. It doesn't mean shit. If I'm ever 385 I wouldn't mind doing the raid with low light levels. As long as they are nice people I don't mind. I mean 360's did twice the damage the 370's did. I'm still shocked by how rude they were. No gg's or any of that. They treat this game like its their life. But I'm glad I met the nice people in the first group. I actually got an invite this morning from one of them and we two manned the s.a.b.e.r nightfall on all three characters. God people can be -blam!-ing rude sometimes but what can we do. Anyways you all have a great day and remember to respect your fellow brothers and sisters. And don't stress too much about light levels. EDIT Thanks to everyone for the compliments and for sharing you're good and bad raid experience. We need more people with common sense in this game. Anyways, that first raid group that I friended? Well we played again and I'm pretty sure we're one of the first few people to get the 5th monitor. 2 hours after datto got it so that's pretty cool. Oh and we beat everything first try this time and beat Aksis phase 2 on our second try. Hope you guys find your raid group soon to stick with. I see lots of people recommending clans so go ahead and give that a try. Just stay positive whether you win or lose and you'll be just fine. TL;DR: people are assholes

  • Sometimes you just have "those guys" and the best you can do is not take the bait. Glad you had some good people though, the community isn't all bad, but there are plenty of asshats that hang around Lfg for sure. Best of luck on future raids, it's a fun one this time.

  • wow nice story :) Kinda feel you there, since ROI my old raid group has seperate and everyone got a new one, kinda sad. I cant find another group cause of all these expectations some people have. They all want high LL and that you know everything perfectly, one mistake and you're out. I hope i find someday new people who have time and patience to do the raid and other stuff with me in destiny, hand out, playing the game and just have fun...but most people only want to get things done quickly and make good loot. By the way, im from germany and things are kinda different here (i think) 95% of the people i met online are like i discribed above i never really found nice people to play with on any german destiny site if you aren't a famous streamer oder youtuber people only think of themselfs... (my usually raid group in TTK times (yeah back then xD) were like friends, we played alot together and go through good and bad times. LL was irrelevant to us is someone needed help the only thing that matters was the human interaction, if you're nice and we can have fun we help you, if not than bother other people, simply as that. Good times man :/ )

  • It amazes me how few people pay attention to the mic icon on lfg. The ones that show they don't I assume are incompetent and leave right away.

  • Sorry about what happened to you, I hope you get the raid next time you try it. Anyways, do you think a mid 370 would be okay in the raid? Thanks in advance.

      • You absolutely never know what you will get with LFG. I always struggled with low light because I'm a filthy casual but every now and again I would find competent people and absolutely slay a raid with them. Thanks for sharing.

      • I never join an lfg team unless the team seems chill and friendly. Enspecialy because I'm kinda young(Jr high) and 90% of lfg would kick me as soon as they hear my voice.

      • I wish I could play with people like you. I mean the raid is hard for me to finish because aksis phase 2 is difficult for me. If your on ps4 it would be awesome if we could play sometime. That's a really messed up story man, your right, people in this game have to respect their teammates even if they are not super high level or the perfect player.

      • I once was in a group doing kings fall on hard and we were perfect, no wipes barely any deaths and we messed up for the first time on oryx and this guy screamed into the mic " you guys -blam!-ing suck" left the party and fireteam. We laughed so hard and as soon as we found another person we beat him first try. LFG can sometimes lead to weird experiences

            • We had to LFG a 6th for an Oryx run a few weeks ago and ended up with a squeaker from hell. He immediately started trying to tell everyone what to do and even bashed one of our guys who accidentally went to the wrong plate at Oryx, to the effect of "If you don't know where the first plate is you shouldn't be playing Destiny!" Me: "Hey _______, what's the shape of Italy?" Kid: "Duh, a boot. Are you some kind of idiot??" *A fire team member has left... Moral of the story- if you don't feel a good vibe right off the bat, don't waste your time.

The fact that people were asking that you know the fights 5 minutes after the first group completed it shows what's wrong with the community. I consider myself to be pretty darn good at the raids at this point and basically never die unless we are wiping and bitching at people doesn't help anything. If there are players that maybe aren't the greatest but they try hard who cares. Work it out don't go screaming at someone. You can usually figure out what they are doing wrong and KINDLY and PATIENCENTLY help them clear the raid. Often the mouthy players mess up the most. So how about we all be nice and if the group just isn't working politely leave and don't be a dick. Side note. Squeakers you don't have to talk ALL THE TIME. more people would be ok with you in raids if you stopped talking for 5 seconds.

Made it through the entire raid without wiping once. Literally first tried every encounter. I'm not saying ppl without emblems aren't good or that everyone that has the emblem is good. Just saying I'm not that guy at all, I'd just rather raid with ppl who know what's going on. And a good sign of that for the time being is the emblem.

                      • It is pretty incredible how many people doesn't have raid etiquette now. People less than a week into the raid demand high light levels but to be completely honest light level really doesn't make that big of a difference. I took my little brother through to the final phase last night and he was 347. As long as your team can communicate and work together it's seriously easier than with high level people who don't work well as a group. We always accept people even if they don't know what to do, it is easy to explain what to do and teach people all we ask is you talk and call out, if you need help with a captain or something just speak up we will help. Raids are supposed to be like an adventure and when people take it extremely seriously it ruins the experience. I mean I hate failing as much as the next person but shit happens and if you can't laugh about silly mistakes then you shouldnt be in a raid in the first place. Just my personal thoughts

                        • Ahahah! At first, I thought you were talking about us. You need to help me get the monitors, Wabbit. I know where there are, I just don't understand the the fourth one. On topic though, I've met plenty of people like that, that's why I don't use LFG and I just play with the same group of people. This community is full of dicksicles, we need more helpful people and people who know it's just a game. Anyone who demands a certain light level or weapon for an activity is most likely going to be a dick.
