I ran into "that guy" yesterday

Soooo I'm sitting here wanting to do the raid on my third character. 3 hours until reset. I was looking for some people on lfg of course cause none of my friends stay up that long. It should be pretty easy to find a group cause I'm a 373 light and people tend to want 370+ a lot. And I ran across a group on lfg saying this is our first time but we know what to do. And I thought screw it I've been sitting here for 10 minutes looking for a group so I'll try this group. I joined and they were all 362-366's. So I thought "well this is gonna be bad." Well it wasn't. These people were amazing and it was all their first runs. And they did know what to do cause they apparently used YouTube to find it all out. We ran through the first boss on our second try which is very surprising for their first time. Ran through Zamboni on our first try. All in 30-45 minutes. Not only that but they were really nice and unique people. One guy had a Russian accent and called us all brothas everytime on callouts. They were funny as hell too. They kept going with jokes throughout the raid and we all had our laughs. Now when we got to the final boss it took about 5 tries to get phase 1 done but that's alright and we were all positive about it throughout the whole thing saying gg and nice try we'll get them next time. We started phase 2 and I was surprised by how many dps we were doing. First round we got his health right between a and r everytime. We didn't beat it tho. People kept making mistakes here and there and we didn't even get mad. We just all laughed it off when someone fell off with his scorch cannon on the fifth round. We were at it for about an hour and we kinda just called it a night. No one left without saying anything. They just said it was all fun but they need to sleep cause they got work tomorrow and stuff and we all said GG. Now here's where it gets -blam!-ed up. I stayed up and went to look for a group cause I still had about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half. I went on lfg and found a group saying must be 370+ with emblem. Well I joined figuring we would get it done fast. As soon as I join the party some kid goes "you got a -blam!-ing mic?" I said yes and he was like ok. I joined the game and they were all 374 to 384. They were quiet for like a whole 2 minutes. They told me to get middle and use storm trance for captain. I did that and I didn't mess up and I did what I was supposed to do. I called it out when I was empowered. I didn't hear other people call out the servitors or who's empowered. No one had the right side so we failed and wiped and they all started screaming in the mic insulting each other. Keep in mind they were adults. Only one kid. We kept going and we kept messing up and I stayed because I had this stupid thought in my head. "They're all 370's so I have to stay we can beat this." Well bullshit. We kept failing and the worst part is they kept shooting the boss but did horrible dps. It only went between c and h. We failed once because we didn't do enough dps. And then another time we were on the last round and I was empowered, I slammed but when I did the boss launched me across the map and I died. Which never happened to me and I figured it happened cause I jumped after slamming. Cause whenever I don't jump after slamming it never happens. So keep in mind when you slam just walk off the boss and do dps don't jump especially if your a warlock floating in mid air. So since I died this kid goes "we didn't do enough dps cause he died he just -blam!-ed it all up for us." Which shocked me cause that was my first mistake and everyone makes mistakes and I didn't know I could get launched off. But one other guy in the party who was mostly quiet the entire time spoke up and said "it wasn't his fault man you need to chill it's a game." The kid replied with "shut the -blam!- up dude I don't care." Next few rounds that quiet dude messed up FOR THE FIRST TIME and didn't slam when the boss teleported right. Which is fine cause everyone hesitates every once in a while and I knew that was his first mistake so I wasn't mad. Now here's the part that disgusts me. He said "sorry guys my bad." And everyone replied with "yeah your bad." And everyone left the party one by one saying their final words before they leave like "you guys suck" and "-blam!- you all" and "go to hell." Everyone left except that quiet dude and we just sat there having a conversation about how harsh they were. Funny thing is this guy has been doing good too. He was the 384. He did the most dps everytime and killed his captain fast. He was the leader of the fire team. He did talk a lot he just spoke in a low volume. Or maybe he didn't maybe it's just me cause no one seem'd to have a problem hearing his callouts. We sat there talking about how some people in this community are really assholes and they don't even communicate and they blame it on other people. We just said "oh well" at the fact that the reset is in 5 minutes. We added each other and he said we should definitely do the raid some day considering me and him did the highest dps. So yeah I didn't beat the raid on my third character but it's fine cause I did a big portion of it and got enough loot to infuse for my main hunter to make him 376. But my mind was off of that. I was mad about the fact that people really just don't have hearts in this game sometimes. I honestly don't care about light level anymore. It doesn't mean shit. If I'm ever 385 I wouldn't mind doing the raid with low light levels. As long as they are nice people I don't mind. I mean 360's did twice the damage the 370's did. I'm still shocked by how rude they were. No gg's or any of that. They treat this game like its their life. But I'm glad I met the nice people in the first group. I actually got an invite this morning from one of them and we two manned the s.a.b.e.r nightfall on all three characters. God people can be -blam!-ing rude sometimes but what can we do. Anyways you all have a great day and remember to respect your fellow brothers and sisters. And don't stress too much about light levels. EDIT Thanks to everyone for the compliments and for sharing you're good and bad raid experience. We need more people with common sense in this game. Anyways, that first raid group that I friended? Well we played again and I'm pretty sure we're one of the first few people to get the 5th monitor. 2 hours after datto got it so that's pretty cool. Oh and we beat everything first try this time and beat Aksis phase 2 on our second try. Hope you guys find your raid group soon to stick with. I see lots of people recommending clans so go ahead and give that a try. Just stay positive whether you win or lose and you'll be just fine. TL;DR: people are assholes

  • Me and my permanent raid team carried a 352 through the entire raid. We hit the damage cap on aksis every damage cycle lol.

  • A friend helped me out last night with it for the first time . I consider myself a decent raider (over 300 total completions between the previous raids. It doesn't take me long to figure out mechanics. Prior to doing the raid, when my friend was attempting to wrangle up people, we spoke with someone he knew that presented this comment "I will only help if you have an experienced group that can blow through it". All I could think of is that the raid came out less than a week ago and we are already getting this crap. This raid is new to me but in a month it will be old hat like the previous ones. It was such a douche statement. We ended up with a group and actually made it to the final boss pretty quickly. Stopped there to call it a night because of our late start and my wife calling me to bed. It really is to early in the raids life for the ass hats to pronounce their good and began to look down on people especially when I guarantee it's going to come back to bite them in the ass.

  • That's the sucky part about LFG, it's always hit or miss. I've met some really cool people there, and also ran into some real assholes. I love this game, and don't mind playing wheel-o-fireteam until I get with a group of chill people. It's always easier if you start your own team too. I haven't got to grind enough to play the Raid, but I'm sure I'll run across some real winners when I do.

  • I'm always looking for someone laid back to game with. I havnt tried the raid yet but I would like to this weekend if I get my light high enough. Add me if you want. I'm too old and have too much in real life worry about than to get mad at a game. I just want to have fun and blow up bad guys.

  • I'm always scared and worried about joining randomers, because if you don't know what you're doing or something, most of them hate it and will be super annoyed at you... even if you ask them beforehand.. I had t the other day, I joined and just said "look can you just quickly explain what to do and how you guys wanna set up" and all I got was a rushed and annoyed "explanation" and a few huffs and puffs... puts me off raiding when I'm usually quiet and shy and anxious as it is... it's a shame

    • I love when stuff like that happens. I posted once need two for trial bounties. No expectation. Just bounties. Two guys sent invite and we went flawless first card. It was awesome. We just played and had fun then to the lighthouse. LFG gets lucky sometimes

      • It makes me happy i have a team, in my second year i ended up in a tiny clan, like 10 guys but all solid and we always run together. I don't like to have even 1 LFGer TBH, it's just such a grab bag, we've been short a guy before and picked up someone who slid right into place but more often we end up with skill/personality/communication issues and it's an immediate cluster-blam!-.

      • I'll never forget the original team I met off these forums for VOG when that launched. Never had a team with such chemistry since and we did it every week. I do feel like this community has lost something. None of those guys even play any more.

        • The best part of this story to me is the fact that you don't need exceptionally high light or to have done it before to be able to work together as a team and encourage each other. That was an awesome story and thanks for sharing. When I go onto LFG its surprising to me how many people require that others have beaten it as though they are only in it to rush through and grab loot. I understand that the end game is high gear. But what's the point if you can't enjoy yourselves and each other. I hope that I have the opportunity to play with that group as you did.

          • Unfortunately, the first ever raid I had attempted was with a group like that. There were a few things I was unclear on as it was first time, and they would simply tell me off if I asked a question. Needless to say, it turned me off from raiding for a while. I got back into it later though, with much friendlier groups. :)

          • Yeah, there are some major idiots out there. I've just recently gotten back into destiny. The one thing I loved about it in the past was the vault of glass. I took an extremely long break and came back about 2 months ago. I played here and there throughout the last 2 years, but not that much. So I'm playing with my best friend from high school, and he's never done any of the raids, so I say, well let's start out right and do the bail of glass. We had some guy in there that was a major d-bag. I'm obviously not going to remember every little detail, we were at the first boss, and I said "I can't remember exactly how to work the relic, does someone else want to try?" And the d-bag chimes in with "really dude? How do you not know how to do this, this is year 1 destiny shit". I told him I took a long break from the game and don't remember every little detail. So a little while goes by, we get to atheon, and I say "dude it would be cool to get the vex mythoclass. I always wanted that gun back when I used to play a lot, but never got it." To which the d-bag chimes in and says "you can only get that on hard mode. Seriously this is year 1 destiny. How do you not know this stuff." He then proceeded to do nothing, but talk on the phone (or someone else in the room) and talk about how he was in a fire team with a bunch of people who didn't know how to "year 1 destiny". People started getting mad and left. So we never finished vault of glass because 1 guy was a complete moron.

I did a raid yesterday, got to the third encounter (siege engine) and had to go to bed. Was looking in my recent games today and noticed one dude on our team had (through Vosik, pts 1 and 2 and the siege engine) 11 kills and a 0.30 KD. Not that I'm MLG by any means but I didn't even know it was possible to have a negative KD in PvE. Lol still had a great time but man did I laugh

              • I was in a raid once for King's Fall before Hard mode was out. I have some bad internet at times, (usually occurs with people who live in different time zones) and me and four of my friend decided to go in an fill in the spot for a kid on LFG looking for 5 people to join. That was just the amount we had. Now, this kid lived in England and had an attitude. Since he lived in a different time zone I was lagging and thus unable to deal maximum damage due to delayed hit markers. This wasn't a problem however. After four wipes, one was from the tombship hitting my friend, the others were from him not killing his Ogre even though we told him to EVERY time. We finally took a moment to figure out the problem. He instantly said, "That Atomic guy has a red bar, he's causing all the lag." Everybody else, got my back and began to dismiss this ridiculous claim (we all stopped to figure out what HIS problem was, we already knew it, we wanted him to admit it.) But, I digress, the kid then, as the party leader, kicks me for bad internet. I then realized, I'm gonna make this kid regret living. "Welp, got kicked. Let's go guys." I said. All my friends run up to Oryx and then leave activating the fight with the kid to die alone. He then begs for us to come back admitting he'll stop messing up and we quietly leave the party and start up our own boss fight. At this point our sixth member gets on, telling us he was working late and we beat it second try. I later spotted him on LFG still looking for 5 as I looked for a Trials team to get a gold pack.

I was the lowest and was trying to kill the captain in zamboni and ppl kept saying what's taking so long and they all looked at me when they should've helped me. I just left. I did the most DPS despite being low

Thank you for sharing your experience. Good teams like your first one need to be highlited more, and good people like that quiet guy also need to be acknowledged. On the same note, terrible teammates need to be called out. Not by name of course but this behaviour is not acceptable.

I'm normally a hunter or a warlock but I'll be anyone I have a mic and I'm about 368 light but we all know this raid is easy so just hit me up man. Or anyone else hit me up I need a raid team!!!

                    • I had a steady raid group, but one by one, we all dropped off. I took a few months off myself, around the time Kingsfall HM came out. After the April update when I was lured back in, nobody was around. I tried LFG, but I experienced too many stories like OP describes above. Gone were the jokes, nicknames and laughter. These were replaced by anger, bigoted namecalling and screams and sighs of frustration. I found out that the raids really weren't fun. At all. So here we are, a new raid to play. Less than a week in, we're already seeing a majority of groups demanding high light and proof of conpletion (emblem) before joining a team. It's starting to look like I'll be sitting this one out.

                      • In tears over this post. This is exactly what I was trying to say about myself trying to find a game just 5 hours after the Raid dropped. Only want X level and know what your doing. I myself havent watched any videos cause I want to experience it myself for the first time, plus I dont personally feel watching a video is going to help with actual hands on experience. But damn man. I wish I could find a chill group like that. I just want to experience the Raid. Im 366 now so could possibly at least do the first part. I miss the old days of VOG, when everyone was just 1 level apart from each other and it didnt really matter if you knew or not Because someone would always be willing to teach you.
