I ran into "that guy" yesterday

Soooo I'm sitting here wanting to do the raid on my third character. 3 hours until reset. I was looking for some people on lfg of course cause none of my friends stay up that long. It should be pretty easy to find a group cause I'm a 373 light and people tend to want 370+ a lot. And I ran across a group on lfg saying this is our first time but we know what to do. And I thought screw it I've been sitting here for 10 minutes looking for a group so I'll try this group. I joined and they were all 362-366's. So I thought "well this is gonna be bad." Well it wasn't. These people were amazing and it was all their first runs. And they did know what to do cause they apparently used YouTube to find it all out. We ran through the first boss on our second try which is very surprising for their first time. Ran through Zamboni on our first try. All in 30-45 minutes. Not only that but they were really nice and unique people. One guy had a Russian accent and called us all brothas everytime on callouts. They were funny as hell too. They kept going with jokes throughout the raid and we all had our laughs. Now when we got to the final boss it took about 5 tries to get phase 1 done but that's alright and we were all positive about it throughout the whole thing saying gg and nice try we'll get them next time. We started phase 2 and I was surprised by how many dps we were doing. First round we got his health right between a and r everytime. We didn't beat it tho. People kept making mistakes here and there and we didn't even get mad. We just all laughed it off when someone fell off with his scorch cannon on the fifth round. We were at it for about an hour and we kinda just called it a night. No one left without saying anything. They just said it was all fun but they need to sleep cause they got work tomorrow and stuff and we all said GG. Now here's where it gets -blam!-ed up. I stayed up and went to look for a group cause I still had about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half. I went on lfg and found a group saying must be 370+ with emblem. Well I joined figuring we would get it done fast. As soon as I join the party some kid goes "you got a -blam!-ing mic?" I said yes and he was like ok. I joined the game and they were all 374 to 384. They were quiet for like a whole 2 minutes. They told me to get middle and use storm trance for captain. I did that and I didn't mess up and I did what I was supposed to do. I called it out when I was empowered. I didn't hear other people call out the servitors or who's empowered. No one had the right side so we failed and wiped and they all started screaming in the mic insulting each other. Keep in mind they were adults. Only one kid. We kept going and we kept messing up and I stayed because I had this stupid thought in my head. "They're all 370's so I have to stay we can beat this." Well bullshit. We kept failing and the worst part is they kept shooting the boss but did horrible dps. It only went between c and h. We failed once because we didn't do enough dps. And then another time we were on the last round and I was empowered, I slammed but when I did the boss launched me across the map and I died. Which never happened to me and I figured it happened cause I jumped after slamming. Cause whenever I don't jump after slamming it never happens. So keep in mind when you slam just walk off the boss and do dps don't jump especially if your a warlock floating in mid air. So since I died this kid goes "we didn't do enough dps cause he died he just -blam!-ed it all up for us." Which shocked me cause that was my first mistake and everyone makes mistakes and I didn't know I could get launched off. But one other guy in the party who was mostly quiet the entire time spoke up and said "it wasn't his fault man you need to chill it's a game." The kid replied with "shut the -blam!- up dude I don't care." Next few rounds that quiet dude messed up FOR THE FIRST TIME and didn't slam when the boss teleported right. Which is fine cause everyone hesitates every once in a while and I knew that was his first mistake so I wasn't mad. Now here's the part that disgusts me. He said "sorry guys my bad." And everyone replied with "yeah your bad." And everyone left the party one by one saying their final words before they leave like "you guys suck" and "-blam!- you all" and "go to hell." Everyone left except that quiet dude and we just sat there having a conversation about how harsh they were. Funny thing is this guy has been doing good too. He was the 384. He did the most dps everytime and killed his captain fast. He was the leader of the fire team. He did talk a lot he just spoke in a low volume. Or maybe he didn't maybe it's just me cause no one seem'd to have a problem hearing his callouts. We sat there talking about how some people in this community are really assholes and they don't even communicate and they blame it on other people. We just said "oh well" at the fact that the reset is in 5 minutes. We added each other and he said we should definitely do the raid some day considering me and him did the highest dps. So yeah I didn't beat the raid on my third character but it's fine cause I did a big portion of it and got enough loot to infuse for my main hunter to make him 376. But my mind was off of that. I was mad about the fact that people really just don't have hearts in this game sometimes. I honestly don't care about light level anymore. It doesn't mean shit. If I'm ever 385 I wouldn't mind doing the raid with low light levels. As long as they are nice people I don't mind. I mean 360's did twice the damage the 370's did. I'm still shocked by how rude they were. No gg's or any of that. They treat this game like its their life. But I'm glad I met the nice people in the first group. I actually got an invite this morning from one of them and we two manned the s.a.b.e.r nightfall on all three characters. God people can be -blam!-ing rude sometimes but what can we do. Anyways you all have a great day and remember to respect your fellow brothers and sisters. And don't stress too much about light levels. EDIT Thanks to everyone for the compliments and for sharing you're good and bad raid experience. We need more people with common sense in this game. Anyways, that first raid group that I friended? Well we played again and I'm pretty sure we're one of the first few people to get the 5th monitor. 2 hours after datto got it so that's pretty cool. Oh and we beat everything first try this time and beat Aksis phase 2 on our second try. Hope you guys find your raid group soon to stick with. I see lots of people recommending clans so go ahead and give that a try. Just stay positive whether you win or lose and you'll be just fine. TL;DR: people are assholes

  • Had the same thing, people blaming other people and what not. Joined a group, flew through first time died once on the first part and it took 3-5 tries but we beat the second part. No one talked shit, people got frustrated but shook it off and went to work. We were lower light level too but everyone synched and we got it done. Great time for sure. I too can't stand that tool who talks down to everyone, whether it's your light level or raid experience. Look bro, some of us work..a lot, so ranking up and raid completions come with time. It's a game, meant to be challenging and fun. So don't be that dickhead.

  • My fireteam seriously under leveled made it more than half way through the raid and we ranged in levels of 340 to 360. Honestly people can be terrible. It sucks too because some of us dont have the time to grind and have the max light. Its a shame because some people are good players and can hold their own but dont have the light level.

    • I'm scared to find players on the forums. This probably sounds stupid but when I play high level content with random people my hands start shaking and I can't stop shivering, regardless of the temperature. Probably related to anxiety or something but it annoys me that I struggle to play with randoms. It's probably because I'm afraid to come across people like you did. Thankfully I have a group of friends (I do not know them in real life but they know each other) and we all get along whilst playing. I never get any shivers or shaky hands when playing with them. Again that probably sounds stupid but it's true. To be honest I just enjoy having fun on the raids. Obviously beating them asap is great for loot, but the experience of beating them with a group of people who are not out to verbally murder each other is just incredible.

      • I was 358 light level when I was doing the raid my first time. My friend and I were doing callouts the entire time and I only died a couple times and they all died at least more times than I did. Light level helps make it easier but if you suck at the game it doesn't help at all. To the people who don't do callouts, this is a team game. You need to understand that callouts can help a person make a better decision when shit gets harder. Even if something seems obvious sometimes isn't obvious to other people. Keep yours eyes up, sound off, and keep your ears open, this is you or the enemy guardians and you aren't the only one in this fight.

Thank u for speaking out I barely have anytime to play so my light level is only 361 people are starting to mix the terms Light Level and Skill a tad bit too close to eachother and that's why I refer to them as "Light Supremacists" big freakin deal if u beat the raid u probably got carried. Not to mention all these people that speak down on the low lighters have a lower grimoire score! Smh. This needs to stop. Whoever does this are really insecure and pathetic. Please help support this post to spread awareness of this dreadful plague. Thank you for your time.

        • I looked for many raid groups today and yesterday but people are just assholes. If you aren't 370 after the first week of the raid then good luck finding a raid. If you don't have emblem you have to search for a very long time. It's ridiculous. Add me if you're on PS4 you sound like a chill guy.

        • Yesterday i completed the raid for the second time with an amazing team. We spoke low volume, nobody scream. When the captain die we just said "right ok, left ok..." When the boss teleport we made the same thing, with calm, one by one, we went in position. This makes the different, not 370+ or the emblem

        • It's because of this Bungie has made multiple ways to reach max light. I would rather slog it out for 3 more months to hit max light and enjoy my game time than 5min in a pickup group. The only raid completions I have were when my friends and I all managed to game at the same time. Now ROI is out I only have one or two friends that even play anymore so raiding won't be on my list of Destiny to do unfortunately as this one looks like a blast.

          • I've given up on trying to use bungie's LFG and only stick to using people I know from now one, even if I have to wait far longer. Every LFG group I've been in has been a shit show of people demanding absurd requirements for raids they didn't even know how to run, people rage quitting over the most mild of mistakes, or just generally being incredibly rude and impatient. Random LFG groups manage to make raiding the least fun part of this game by far.

            • This reminded me of the time where I joined a raid group for King's Fall on the Oryx checkpoint, and since I was previously an xbox player and I would consider myself an expert on the raid since I could do every position, had 335 light, etc. Anyways I got a ps4 and restarted my destiny experience and by the time I did the hard raid I was 329 light and I join this group full of kids. I didn't think much at the time since I've played with lots of good people before, but these kids were literally cancer. They kept blaming all of their mistakes on me because I was 2 light levels lower than them even though I had to kill the vessel, two of their knights, a ton of ads, and do most of the damage on oryx's chest. Keep in mind I am the runner. They would get so mad and cuss me out because their ogres didn't die. I was literally about to quit before even finishing the 3rd round when they started debating to kick me out because I was doing so bad. So I ranted on all them and told them they are the ones doing so bad and it isn't my job as the runner to kill all of your ogres and knights. And before they could even finish what they were going to say after getting triggered by getting called out for their shitty effort and screaming in the mic saying, "NO WE'RE NOT YOU'RE BAD!" I left. If you are one of these people that act like this game is like a life or death situation -blam!- you. You ruin everything over a video game.

Told them I didn't really know how to do vog but they said it was cool and that they would teach me. Even though I didn't talk much I had a blast with them. Coolest people I played with by far. I don't know where they are or if they play destiny anymore but I hope they're doing well in life and in game.

              • I had a friend of mine (We were both 345, I've been struggling to do strikes) so a friends invites us to the raid. He sees is and looks at my Hunter friend, and says he can join... He sees me and tries to get the group to kick me out because I'm a Warlock... Ended up they let me stay and we got the first part done, funny part is, is that me and my friend did the best in the raid. People need to understand low light doesn't mean everything, this goes for IB and Trials as well

              • Heh wish I had a group I could even do raid with. I've always been a shy person so finding people to do it with me that are able to get the job done without yelling at people is a hard task. VoG days someone invited me to a raid, I accepted against all my feelings about it and even turned on my mic. I'd never gotten along with a group of people so well in my life. Within weeks they'd promoted me to a leader of their clan. Then we went on to assisting people through VoG countless times and get flawless, we carried three at a time eventually. CE raid came and we decided to try to #1 it... we didn't manage to but it was great fun to try nonetheless! This raid took my completions to maybe 350. I attribute them entirely to the people that invited me back in VoG. KF raid we again tried to #1 and we didn't of course but I don't care because it was fun! During this year, I actually met one of my team in person, he flew out from Denmark to UK just to do it. It was brilliant. Then the drystreak of Y2 came and my team left one by one, slowly over time. Now they're all gone. I'm the last guardian. My point is people should enjoy Destiny, it won't be around forever but some of the people you interact with may be. I'm meeting my team again in October when I fly to Denmark! I'm glad I accepted the raid invite on that fateful day! I'm not sure what stops me from doing it all over again with a new team. Anxiety can be a b_tch sometimes!

Definitely need to work on sticking with the raids myself. All it took last dlc was enough negative/annoying groups for me to quit trying Kings fall simply due to negativity, leavers, and people who are just plain mean/rude the entire time. It's a game, people need to learn to just enjoy it! Can't win them all but man, there's always tomorrow, next week, and/or next month. Edit: nice post by the way man.
