King's Fall Lore Part 1 - My Thoughts

The following is what I envision went through Oryx's thoughts in regard to the events that led up to King's Fall. All the way to the point right before he faced off against the Guardians in his Throne Room on the Dreadnaught. Hope you enjoy! Kings Fall Lore I am defeated. I have lost the battle with the servants of the Traveler. That cursed being that still defeats me even as it lies in a ruinous state. Those foolish guardians believe they have committed regicide as they defeated me on my vessel, the Dreadnaught. However, I cannot be killed that easily. They have yet to realize that I can only truly be killed within my own throne room. The one realm where I am truly vulnerable. I am amused that they did not consider this earlier. After all, the Guardians were only able to truly kill my son in his throne room. *sigh* Crota, my son, I should have intervened on your behalf. It still haunts me to this day that I did not come to your aid. I can still hear the summoning of your Oversoul. The fear that washed over me when I felt the power of it swelling in your realm. Even though I was galaxies away, I can still feel that moment of anguish as I knew that you were forced to summon your Oversoul. I can only imagine your last moments and it hurts me to my core. The tide of the battle turned against you. This battle was not like the war where you won the moon and the Guardians fled in fear. No, this battle was different. Those wretched guardians had learned the truth. The truth that you could only be slayed in your world, down in the dark below. Once I felt the energy of your Oversoul, I knew that your throne had been invaded and you were in danger. This was your last effort to kill the invaders of your realm and to call out to me that you were endangered. I abandoned everything to rush to your side. I heard your last battle cry ring out. Was it a cry of victory or agony? I would soon learn the answer to that question. I can still remember my thoughts from that night. I thought that I would find you standing victorious over the bodies of the Light’s miscreants upon my arrival. After all, you were a god of the Hive. People worshipped you and I created you. At the worst, I, Oryx, king of the Taken, would be able to save you, my one true son. However, that was not the case. I arrived in your throne room and walked into a pure nightmare. I saw the shells of many defeated Hive. My children, who with their dying breath, tried to save you. My heart sank as saw I your sword cast to the side. Its luminous green glow was fading. I began to think that I would find you wounded, but still alive. I searched for your energy, your soul, your essence. Anything! As I ascended the steps to your throne, time slowed and every step felt like an eternity. Once I ascended the stairs, there you laid, or what was left of you. Only a trace of your soul remained. I screamed out in anger and sorrow as I realized your last battle cry was one of agony… Looking back now, my time of mourning was too brief. The grief quickly turned into a maddening rage as I tried to find those responsible for your death. However, the guardians that had committed this vile deed had already climbed Out of the Abyss. Those wretched guardians had learned the power of Sword Logic from the madman they call Toland. He knew that only your own weapon could harm you. That the pain your sword had inflicted upon numerous guardians was captured and stored to enhance your own power. Crota, you fool! You took this power and gave it to your underlings. You believed that by giving the Sword Logic to your underlings you were strengthening your army. However, you were sharing your only weakness with others. To think those guardians understood this and used your own power against you. That those warriors of the Light were able to kill you with your own blade. That they took your own dark blade and thrust it through your heart, forcing you to cry out in such agony. -Omnilinkstrife Part 2: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/202303419?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1 Part 3: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/202303740?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1
