Weapon Reforge/Forge 2.0

Hello, please be gentle as I have been racking my brain on this idea for awhile. The premise/goal here is to allow players to do deep reforging but without trivializing gameplay. (IE: Giving players a reason to hunt down weapons, armor, and to seek out specific perks.) Also the cost will make it an end goal. (Could even maybe serve as a form of Endgame activity for the more Casual Players.) As the deeper into the forging you go the higher the prices, and the more time invested. So while RNG may give some players the "God Roll", other players can make it a quest to slowly acquire their ideal gun & armor (see my other thread). So when they have finally achieved that ideal gun. It will be something they can be proud of, and indeed earned as it took a large amount of time & dedication. Probably have a story to go with it. Did they raid for the materials? Farm? Quest? Get specific Armsday rolls? Maybe RNG helped them get the materials. Please note my below suggestions result in a Legendary Item. Exotics are exempt from all stages of this for obvious purposes/reasons. Reforging will only effect the perks on said Weapon. Reforging will not change the Weapons Appearance (Look), Handling (Feel), Recoil direction, and/or stats. (Obviously...) Please note I tried to emulate the proper Perk slot count, but some Guns do have more perk choices than others. So don't take this as 100% literal. Weapon Reforging:
NPC: Gunsmith Process: Interact with the Gunsmith, and R1/Right Trigger to the Reforge menu. Step 1: Select your weapon Upon selecting it the Gunsmith will begin the process. A new menu opens showing you the Weapon displayed now as a blueprint with colored lights running through various lines on the blueprint, & below that it shows each column of perks for the weapon. Each column MUST be unlocked before you can change the perks in it. In addition when selecting perks you have to have the following: Motes of Light Legendary Marks Weapon Parts Glimmer A Weapon of the SAME type (Must be a Handcannon to add it to a Handcannon & etc.) with the Perk on it, also the perk must be allowed on the weapon. Example: Omolon Handcannons cannot have Hidden Hand rolled on them. (This will dismantle the weapon.) Each perk will have different prices in materials. Growing steeper with each column. (To be blunt. We are forging our own legend with our own fire, not getting a handout/shortcut.) Column 1 - Scopes Unlock price = 1500 Glimmer Brings up a list of default scopes that you can add, their price in materials. 1 Appropriate Weapon with the Scope on it. Element (For Secondary, & Heavy Weapons only) Elements will be decided by simply selecting one. Cost: 25 Marks 25 Motes of Light 25 Weapon Parts Column 2 - Perks Unlock Price = 3000 Glimmer + 25 Marks Brings up a list of perks, each perk slot (max of 2) cost 10 Marks to unlock. Perk(s) chosen costs: 25 Marks 25 Motes of Light 25 Weapon Parts 1 Appropriate Weapon with the Perk on it. Column 3 Unlock Price = 6000 Glimmer + 50 Marks Brings up a list of perks, each perk slot (max of 1) cost 25 Marks to unlock. Perk(s) chosen costs: 50 Marks 50 Motes of Light 50 Weapon Parts 1 Appropriate Weapon with the Perk on it. Column 4 - Perks Unlock Price = 12000 Glimmer + 100 Marks Brings up a list of perks, each perk slot (max of 3) cost 50 Marks to unlock. Perk(s) chosen costs: 100 Marks 100 Motes of Light 100 Weapon Parts 1 Appropriate Weapon with the Perk on it. Please note that the prices are per perk. So to completely fill Column 4's 3 slots you would need to spend 300 of each material and need 3 weapons.
____________________ The following can be accessed by pressing L1/Left Trigger from The Gunsmith Menu/Interface. Forging is he process of creating/upgrading your own weapon but with severe limitations. Weapon Forging:
NPC: Gunsmith Forging can only be done using: A. Blue Weapons B. Manufacturer Frames The process is simple. Blue Weapons: Weapon Forging a Blue Weapon will be a long process that results in turning your Blue Weapon into a Legendary Quality Weapon, and like Reforging will take time and effort. Using a Blue Weapon will keep the Weapon's Appearance & Stats, as well as determine what perks can be put on it. IE: RoF, Impact, Handling, Recoil direction, & etc will not change. Forging will also clear off all the current Perks on the weapon, add 4 Perk columns, and an Infusion Node. Using a Manufacturer Frame: This will result in the player custom building their own Hakke, Omolon, Tex Mechanica, & etc. Basically it’s an empty shell, the "Appearance" of the gun, and determines what perks the Gun is Valid/Compatible to receive. Column 1 - Scopes Unlock price = 1500 Glimmer Brings up a list of scopes that you can add, their price in materials.
__________________________________ So any thoughts? Ideas? Please be constructive as with refinement this could be an idea that Bungie (I know...it’s unlikely) will look into/consider. I personally feel this would please most people as it would allow folks to get the weapons, armor, look, & playstyle that they desire. But without trivializing content, without creating a situation where you can max yourself out in a week or two, and gives players items to be proud of with stories to go behind them as the upgrade process will drive players to run various types of content. (Seeking specific Blue items for the look of it.) This could also bring some value back to Green, & Blue items, and help the time & effort Bungie put into them get the recognition it deserves.
