Raid Matchmaking: THE DEBATE

All Raids should have matchmaking

Today I pose a question to you! How do you feel about raid matchmaking? Are we fine how we are now? Or would it be a great improvement? LETS DEBATE: Pro Matchmaking Adding matchmaking to the raids will allow for more players to participate in them. No longer will you be forced to use an LFG site or recruitment threads if you don't have any friends online. Just launch the activity and Walla you are in a full fire team! While some would argue that some people would get matched with lower light levels or just players who don't know what to do, this offers for players to teach others each encounter. This would add to the social aspect of the raids even more! And hey, if you still wanted to go on LFG, you can! Nobody is stopping you. If you think the new raids would be too hard, that's okay. We could have matchmaking for VoG and CE but not Kings Fall, because those raids are much lower light level. That way newer players can run through those old raids for the first time much more easily, or old players can do the same just for fun. Problem Solved Con Matchmaking Matchmaking for raids is a terrible idea! This would lead to more frustration than ever. People with very low light levels, inexperienced players, people instantly leaving, players with no mic, these are the players you will be getting matched up with, and the list just goes on and on. Adding a matchmaking system is a waste of Bungies time. With half the player base on LFG and the other half raid matchmaking, wait times will be longer than ever. And when you finally do get a match, people could purposefully troll or go AFK with no one to kick them. How do you expect checkpoints to work? If I have Golgoroth cp , will I only get matched with people at Golgoroth? If so, wait times will be even longer. If not, I might lose my checkpoint and miss out on the Golgoroth loot I still needed to get. Getting through a strike with Randoms is hard enough, doing a raid with Randoms would be near impossible. So what do you think? Should raid matchmaking be a thing or not? What other topics are worthy of a Debate? EDIT: Wow, glad to see everyone voicing there opinions in the comments. This post has gotten more love than I expected. Fun to read these comments.

  • It need matchmaking. Crappy matches or not. I quit playing at one point because I get tired of spending and hour or so just to try to find a group like today I had four hours to play before I go pick up my children from school. You think I found a group to play with? Of course not. Everyone wants people to be 335 light to even join the group. So in my opinion there needs to be matchmaking because at least at that point I wouldn't be sitting here for hours on my phone watching my ship float in orbit. Usually the game gets shit off before I get a group or I get tired of looking and do strikes.

    • Couldn't care less if there's matchmaking, just so long as the matchmaking is optional

What if you wanted to solo raids? Optional matchmaking is the way to go. Helps everyone.

    • As long as it's 100% optional, nobody would really have an issue with it.

      • No. In order for it to work they would need to dumb down the experience so people can do it without communicating. At that point it's just a very long strike. I think they should add an in game lfg but not matchmaking. I'm glad xbox will be adding that function this fall. It should make finding players easier.

      • I've made the same argument several times in this thread. I'm going to make it one last time. Optional matchmaking for the raids brings the risk of unique raid mechanics being nerfed to increase completion rates for non-communicating matchmade teams. The failure/quit early rate will inevitably be extremely high. Bungie showed us with Valus Ta'Aurc what happens when completion rates are low. I don't want to see raids lose their unique mechanics, without them they're essentially long strikes. All that said, I want people to have more completions. If you are on Xbox One and still have not completed a raid, message me at Nessa for Life and I will be happy to help. I have several friends who run raids for people all week, long after they've gotten rewards.

      • My thing with raid matchmaking is I imagine you could toggle it on or off, if that's the case then why the hell not?

        • First just to hopefully give some credibility to my response I am a year 1 player (started during TDB) with 60+ completions on all 3 raids. I have raided with pretty much every type of player from LFG to noobs to vets and have experienced pretty much every result you can think of. I started writing a response where I was actually in favor of match making but as I was writing I started to realize how complicated it would have to be in order to work effectively and fairly. My final opinion is that it would be a bad idea as there are simply too many filters that would need to be put in place to make match making worth considering and the current LFG system seems to work fairly well. Things that came to mind when I was initially writing in favor of match making: - what happens if the fireteam leader gets booted - what happens if the fireteam leader starts booting people to bring friends in (I get that this can happen with the current LFG system but it's not a Bungie issue right now) - how do you filter out people with no mic - how do people get added to the fireteam if someone has to leave - what if I only want to start a fresh raid and what about anyone I join who needs someone but is already half way through I think the current LFG is pretty effective and requires no additional work on Bungie's part so have a hard time thinking this either a) will happen or b) makes sense from a business perspective. Dip!!!!!

        • Matchmaking would barely increase raid participation because u would be stuck on the first step for 10 hours

        • Add matchmaking as long as it is optional and you can have restrictions, like only 330+.

        • As others have stated, an in-game LFG system would be much better. But if for some reason Bungie can't provide that and instead add matchmaking to raids, they need to make it so that it'll pull players from PS or Xbox parties so that they're required to communicate in-game.

        • In game lfg instead would be a much better system than matchmaking.

          • If there was matchmaking in raids Bungie would have awful skill based matchmaking which would make raids 10x harder

          • Only way match making in raids would work is to have guardians rank themselves on experience in each type of raid....such a as Rank 1-Need to be tutored on the raid....Rank 2- Some raiding experience in this raid but not an expert....Rank 3- expert with significant understanding and experience in this raid. If a guardian lies, it will become obvious and they can be dropped. Another thought is to have a team be able to drop or denote a team leader by having a vote option with 2/3rd majority can drop the leader. This would allow a team not to have to completely break up after being canned onto a team by a leader who is just looking for a carry through the raid.

          • There should be an ingame lfg system for the more difficult content. If that's too much of a stretch, I wouldn't mind regular matchmaking for the old raids.

          • It's a waste of time and if you want proof go play the Division and check out the turdtastic teams you'll get using matchmaking for any of their end game content. You might think you're saving time by matchmaking but wiping over and over and over and over again with newbs trolls and people who just don't communicate takes 1000x longer than posting on the forums.

            • No. High level end game content should be pursued by people who are willing to put time and effort into it. Part of that effort is assembling a fireteam. That's why it's prestigious. You actually put forth all the required effort into it. And this is coming from a raider since the early days of World Of Warcraft. You wanted those raid completions, you learned to get social and seek out people who were like minded and capable. Or...... you didn't raid lol.

            • I honestly don't really mind either way. When I want to raid, I have my team to do so with. I have honestly never used LFG, and never will. Fûck this shit, I'm out!

            • You should be able to choose matchmaking.people with friends or clans dont need matchmaking.solo players like myself do.that way i can at least practice enough so i dont get kicked every 5 minutes like it has been last year.
