Raid Matchmaking: THE DEBATE

All Raids should have matchmaking

Old Raids should have matchmaking

No Raids should have matchmaking

Today I pose a question to you! How do you feel about raid matchmaking? Are we fine how we are now? Or would it be a great improvement? LETS DEBATE: Pro Matchmaking Adding matchmaking to the raids will allow for more players to participate in them. No longer will you be forced to use an LFG site or recruitment threads if you don't have any friends online. Just launch the activity and Walla you are in a full fire team! While some would argue that some people would get matched with lower light levels or just players who don't know what to do, this offers for players to teach others each encounter. This would add to the social aspect of the raids even more! And hey, if you still wanted to go on LFG, you can! Nobody is stopping you. If you think the new raids would be too hard, that's okay. We could have matchmaking for VoG and CE but not Kings Fall, because those raids are much lower light level. That way newer players can run through those old raids for the first time much more easily, or old players can do the same just for fun. Problem Solved Con Matchmaking Matchmaking for raids is a terrible idea! This would lead to more frustration than ever. People with very low light levels, inexperienced players, people instantly leaving, players with no mic, these are the players you will be getting matched up with, and the list just goes on and on. Adding a matchmaking system is a waste of Bungies time. With half the player base on LFG and the other half raid matchmaking, wait times will be longer than ever. And when you finally do get a match, people could purposefully troll or go AFK with no one to kick them. How do you expect checkpoints to work? If I have Golgoroth cp , will I only get matched with people at Golgoroth? If so, wait times will be even longer. If not, I might lose my checkpoint and miss out on the Golgoroth loot I still needed to get. Getting through a strike with Randoms is hard enough, doing a raid with Randoms would be near impossible. So what do you think? Should raid matchmaking be a thing or not? What other topics are worthy of a Debate? EDIT: Wow, glad to see everyone voicing there opinions in the comments. This post has gotten more love than I expected. Fun to read these comments.

  • The only way this would work is if it became in-game lfg, with options to set requirements and messages.

    • There should be an lfg feature You should have sections of people who know how to do the raid an others who would like to learn. While compiling a team you could pull from either list. One of the most frustrating longest and most rewarding things is to take an entire team through a raid for the first time. No matchmaking. It'll end up like the division where people keep kicking lower light guardians until they find who they want t

    • With the cons, I will say it's pretty easy to complete strikes with randoms in fact been going solo in strikes for 2 yrs.

    • Yes if it's optional. And it won't auto matchmake if one of our team drops out.

Its not that I don't want Raid matchmaking for the sake of it, I am thinking of the nuclear fallout that could occur if it was implemented... Lets just say Bungie grant people's wish and implement matchmaking using their time and resources... Hooray! The Raiding playerbase is at an all time high upon the release of Destiny's latest Raid and these numbers have become the new standard and level of acceptance for Bungie. The people who decide to matchmake will be matchmade with incompetent players, micless players, mutes, trolls, underleveled players, AFKers and that one guy who actually knows what he's doing, and will realize that the guys who were against matchmaking all this time were right all along... This is where the nuclear fallout begins... People will then have the audacity to once again resort to complaining on the forums begging Bungie to reduce the difficulty and remove any communication required mechanics of any future Raid because they are constantly being matchmade with 6 man Warlock fireteams, AFKers, trolls, micless players etc. and cannot complete the Raid. Even with the ability to kick players won't be enough to tackle such problems without losing your sanity. The Raiding figures which were at an all time high will go into freefall leaving pre-made teams and clans as the regular playerbase once again. Bungie being Bungie will take notice to this drastic drop in numbers and because they actually put time into granting everyone's wish of matchmade Raids will not want that work to be undone and will inevitably do a knee jerk reaction, water down mechanics and reduce difficulty for future Raids to make it more accessible to players and the behest of all those complaints on the forums or Reddit.

Matchmaking should be optional. Eg If you start with a 6 man team and someone drops out, you should have the option of letting the game fill the gap or inviting someone in yourself. Chat should be compulsory in matchmade teams and a vote to kick feature needs to be implemented too

        • You forgot optional matchmaking. There is no legitimate argument against optional matchmaking.

        • go run the mini crota on your own with people patrolling. The result will give you a hint of what a matchmade raid would do.

          • Imo, Bungie should just implement an LFG kiosk at the tower. A kiosk with the players names, classes, light levels, gear and raid completions. Also with special requirements messages.

          • I think that bungie should implement an in game group finder tool. It checks to see that you meet the light level requirements and shows you a list of things to que up for. Hard mode for the raids would be locked until you have completed the raid on normal. There should also be an option for those who feel confident enough in thier knowledge to be able to lead. (You will need a mic to select this role) This person should have the ability to vote kick someone for being AFK/trollish. There would be a cool down on this function to let it be used only once every five minutes. Lastly, for raids, it should start by looking for people at your checkpoint and then move on to people who are just before it and then even further before. Of course if you have the oryx checkpoint and want people for just oryx nothing is stoping you from using an outside source. In short, this is something that should be more than within reason for bungie to do and would help make destiny a better game as a whole.

          • No. If you think there should be, try making a raid group consisted of people with no mics and have never done a raid before and come back and tell me if you get through half of it

          • I have read a fair number of comments. But none convince me it would be awful if you have a fireteam or are happy to use LFG it really shouldn't affect you. Yes there are muppets in match making, but there are some really cool people too. I've had a blast in doubles this week. I know it's not a Raid, the point is more there are good people who want to match make. If it's not messing with your regular fireteam (I have one) or your LFG buddies (basically matchmaking with conditions) why worry? Plus they may put in conditions, or build around a social space where you can see completions / mic / gear etc etc Maybe I'm missing a point. But I don't see it being made yet.

          • I don't want in-game Matchmaking. I want in-game LFG. Where I can set mic availability, experience of the raid, light level requirements, and request certain classes.

          • Maybe if they somehow made mics required, and if you didn't have on you couldn't go into matchmaking. Otherwise it won't work, no matter how much bs you make up.

          • Ok best option make a true lfg in game just a kiosk that allows you to look for a group you select what you want in this case raid itll say your checkpoint and light level and if you have mic or not. For trials itll say your kd you can select whatever your goal is etc. This will also allow you to browse other groups if you like one you select it and it sends your info and a quick msg to leader.

          • Tefty had a pretty good idea for this recently on the planet destiny podcast, I'm not sure how best to implement it but basically there should be a matchmade tutorial raid, nice low level, revives at all times, kinda basic mechanics. Then once you are done with this tutorial raid you will be put off raid matchmaking by the no mics, the afks, the I'm not going to listen to you and just shoot shit, the rage-quitters and the just generally useless at which point you will be happy to use LFG again... The easy fix to this would just be to have some form of LFG in the game... -blam!- matchmaking

          • I don't have a team to play raids with, so each time I jump into the LFG forum to find a group. Sometimes it takes a while before I have found the right group, so I really hate this part of playing the raids, but I am afraid that matchmaking is not the solution. Just look at the heroic strike playlist which is full with AFK players, what will stop them from going AFK in raids? And this is not even the biggest problem with having matchmaking, communication is the main problem.

          • I don't see a problem with legacy content that wouldn't be challenging to players with current end-game gear having matchmaking. That's a logical solution for helping keep old content relevant.

          • I would never trust randoms in a raid. Two reasons and the first one are the trolls who just sit there and mess around while everyone is trying to get stuff done. And two would be the huge lack of coordination and alot of people barking orders, too many shepards not enough sheep i suppose applies here. It would just be a bad idea to allow this to happen. But in the defense of people who can't seem to get a raid team together, this would be a godsend. Mayhaps i contradicted myself but that's my opinion.

          • Afk and bad players or griefers...Yada Yada. At the end of the day, I don't have the confidence in bungie to do it right. So I'm against it.

          • I wont run strikes anymore unless I'm with friends, too many bad runs due to other players, wish MM was an option so I could run them solo.....if they add it as an option then fine but if its mandatory like PVP and Strikes then NO.

People against optional raid matchmaking that can be toggled on and off prior to starting any raid via the menus are like men who have really strong antiabortion opinions. "It doesn't affect me, but I want everyone to do things the way I want to do it because I'm an asshole." Wah wah wah.
