Trials Balanced Matchmaking - Lighthouse Pool/Bracket

Proposal: Once you've been to the lighthouse on a character each week, you, and any team you play with (with that character) will automatically be placed into a new matchmaking pool and only play against other teams with one or more members who have been to the lighthouse. This gives each person the ability to go to the lighthouse 3 times a week facing other teams that haven't yet been to the lighthouse that week. The Problem: I've noticed that an easy 75% of the Trials games I've played lately are against carry teams, where one or two individuals get the majority of kills, while the third literally does nothing at all. Those two are often in the same clan, or their player histories show them playing together a lot, while the third is seen in one match with them, and that's it. Trials is already heavily competitive, and it is quickly going out of balance and being weighted towards only the most skilled players leaving those who are trying to enter disheartened and dejected, often never returning. At least this provides a much more balanced and level playing field for those trying to reach the Lighthouse for their first time, the longer the week progresses, the better their chances. But I like to help my friends Well, to be fair, you will be playing against others who are also "just helping their friends" like you, so what's the problem? Git Gud Scrub We will, when we're able to play and make progress without getting our faces rammed into the wall continuously by MLG streamers raffling carries each weekend. Oh, and "Prove you are worthy" try facing other teams in a higher "quality" bracket, I'm quite sure this will really separate the good players from the bad each week.

  • Sick and tired of poorer players trying to punish good players for simply being good at the game. Just practice and work on improving. If you can't then settle for the bounty weapons and armor which are the exact same except for the last resort perk. Since you can't go flawless anyway it means you're rarely last man standing so the perk is useless. So there ya go. Unless you are literally trying to change an entire gamemode over a damn emblem which would be embarrassing.

      • So what you're saying is give people who have gone to the lighthouse to give them a longer matchmaking or they get put with the same people repeatedly

      • Personally i think there are a lot of things that could make trials better. But i dont complain. I just play and i dont care. It sounds like you just want it to be easy to go flawless and thats not a reality. Overall its pretty fair to go flawless. Otherwise maybe bungie should make a boon that automatically gives you 9 wins. Cuz that would resolve your problem.

That would make the matchmaking times unbearable. Imagine if you go flawless on your hunter, then want to play on your hunter again the next day in order to do the gold teir bounty. Getting this bounty done would be cumbersome because you have the matchmaking pulling from a much smaller participant pool since it requires flawless players to be on the opposite team. Also I have many friends who want to play trials with me and they're not that good (no offense guys). Im not great either, but lets say I go flawless, and I want to keep playing on that character later that weekend while I hang out with my friends. Why should my friends be punished and forced to go up against people who are or could be leagues above my skill level. That would not be fun for them because they would not have a chance. Im not helping them go flawless, they just want to have fun and try to do well, not get steamrolled. Being forced to go up against flawless players would make friends avoid each other, and thats not what people want to do.

      • You realize the people that are carrying don't use boons so they will just wait until they are finished carrying to make their light house run. They never go over 7 wins then they get a new card.

        • When I first started pvp I was a .40 k/d player. I was terrible, and never stood a chance at flawless. I didn't ask players to carry me, or for bungie to make it easier. I didn't even play trials because I knew I wasn't good enough. I started playing more pvp. I would watch better players, learn some of their movement, callouts, weapons, and subclasses they used. Over time I became a better player with lots of practice and plenty of ass whoopings along the way. Now I can hold my own, and have gone flawless 40+ times with the limited time I have to even play as it is. Now I don't really care to much for trials. It's probably one of the more boring game modes with how incredibly passive it's played. Got all the weapons, shaders, and emblems...no point to do it until the new season comes around.

            • Why don't you take the time to work with your team or take the time to decide that your team is just not good enough to compete?

                • This won't work because the twich carry teams will just stop buying boons, so only the people they carry will go flawless, while the people doing the carry will stay in the other tier.

                  • I've never been to the lighthouse, but if I do, I don't want it to be because the whiny self-entitled wusses of this community lowered the bar for entry along with ruining its prestige.

                    • It will never happen. It's clearly obvious the top players aren't good at other pvp games. Trials gives them satisfaction because they fail at other games. People disagree with me but it's true. End of the day I'm good at other pvp games but suck at destiny pvp. That's life. The only issue I have is the idiots who say "get good". Doesn't matter how much better you get because the top players will always be getting better. I do feel that paid carries and stuff should stop.

Maybe the players aren't the problem, perhaps it is a "you" problem. If others can find ppl to make a carry attempt, so can you. EasyMoneyNick and I host broadcasts every weekend for free carries. Feel free to shoot us a friend request, or even sauce a follow on his twitch

                      • So because you find it hard to go flawless rather then practising by doing Elimination during the week you would just rather change how matchmaking works so it makes it easier for you. Basically you're to lazy to help yourself. You have played only 77 games of Elimination. You have played 170 games of ToO. You're no good with a sniper and they are only 1% of your kills which is basically a must to win trials games. Ill fix your post for you... I don't think it can be that exclusive but the more people on your team that have gone flawless just the more chance you'll be matched with other people that have gone flawless. If it's to strict you bottle neck the population and lag gets bad and matches repeat. I have an idea here https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/211832752/0/0
Tldr: is trials supposed to be this exclusive and determined by the best of the best getting worse as the population drops? Is this bungies ideal set up? My idea: Going flawless gives you a badge like the triumphs or a different reward pool passage that earns you more rewards for beating other flawless teams which also prioritizes flawless against flawless more to both encourage those rewards and give trials players as the weekends go on less of a chance of matching a nonflawless team. Increasing the number of people going flawless while maintaining the competitiveness and increasing rewards for everyone including a new tier of rewards for the best of the best to chase. Hopefully this increases the trials population from increased chance of rewards to benefit the playlist as a whole and mediate the lag that could be caused by the added influence of the flawless prioritizing with current matchmaking may have. This is prioritizing not guarantee. A tier system that divided would bottleneck the population.
Majority of the player base would probably just see a big increase in package rewards and a small increase in flawless. If it did increase flawless a lot then people playing over and over has a really significant impact on how hard it is to go flawless. Programming could be as simple as program the badge to be given in the chest. Give having it a value as a variable added into the match making. Wins with it count like bounties. One of them being go flawless again ETC for more rewards. But I don't know programming enough to know if matchmaking can take game inventory into account with how the game is designed.

                        • Destiny PVP is not competitive at all man. To me they need to implant dedicated servers or just redo the trial mode. And to fix the problem between the people who went flawless that week... They can simply put a gold star next to their name or sometype of cosmetic effect such as (white slim aura around your gamertag or avatar) you know like they did in the vanilla days when one complete a nightfall. This way they will only be match with people who has the star/aura around them until reset. And for the people who don't have the aura around their gamertag will be match to other opponents who currently does not have the aura/star.
