What does Rasputin say?
Apart from ballet music you can hear a russian speaking voice when walking near sort of Warmind's beacons in the Cosmodrome patrol. I will write down translation to all the phrases I heard from them. Here they are:
1. "(unreadable)... no one to blame. Neither it is their name, nor ours. It is a misery of being born as the entire world dies."
2. "(unreadable)... events to come cast their shadow in advance, while events of the past leave behind pictures of themselves."
3. "Security protocole 8-6-3 engaged. Hostile objects spotted."
4. "... natural order indicates of a movement towards the highest form of life."
you can hear this and few more words before "natural order" if you listen to the array's control panel in a story mission, but its impossible to understand because Ghost is talking at the same time. and in a patrol phrase starts with "natural order"
5. "There's no immortal soul, as well as there's no virtue, then everything is permitted."
6. "Count this. Calculate the probability of that."
7. "They decided to stay grasped by a shell leaves"
It is all that I heard in the patrol by now. I'll make an edit if I find more.

There are also a several russian voice lines in the Fallen SABER strike. The voice is different though
1. "I am in danger! Systems damaged!"
you hear this during loading, after Zavala's briefing
2. "Warsat is launched. Acces codes inside"
right before the warsat landing
3. "System is hacked, suffered damage. Planning countermeasures"
after you throw a grenade into a hole
4. "High priority to the mobile unit. Destroy it immediately!"
when SABER shows up

First few are interesting, one like the saber quotes don't really have much lore impact, but this is pretty cool, seeing them all organized easily :)

It seems to me like what Rasputin said in the story missions might be a vestige of the story that was swapped, and reworked. The lines from the later content are very situational and don't do much to suggest deeper lore. It makes me wonder if the original lines were left in because the were vague enough to really tie them down to anything in particular, but when the Saber strike was released they still weren't entirely sure what they would end up doing with Rasputin so they gave him situational dialogue that had no real ramifications. Is it just me or do the original lines support the idea that humanity has already lost, and we are the picture from the past who only exist in a Vex simulation? Is the world coming to an end and all of us, the Vex, the Fallen, the Hive, the Cabal simply caught in the swell, being PUSHED by the rising tide of darkness. None of us are to blame, we are simply caught up in events larger than we are? It questions the existence, or relevance of morality in this situation. What is causing the end? What is projecting the shadow? Is the deep a take on the idea of "the big freeze"? The theory that entropy being what it is will result in all matter and energy being so spread out, the universe so cold, that everything stops. Where does that leave us? What was meant by the line that "they decided to stay, grasped by a shell of leaves"? Is Rasputin suggesting that there is a way foreward but to do so we must abandon our weak corporeal forms? Is the end game sacrificing our light and the traveller's to infuse the universe with energy, allowing it to begin the cycle again? If the deep is entropy, is the sky the opposite? Does the sky concentrate energy? Was the big bang simply the end of one cycle and the beginning of another? Is the traveller simply an entity that is an agent of the Sky in that it wants to start the cycle anew... perhaps even knows a way to survive? Are the worm gods simply trying to consume the traveller's accumulated light so that they themselves can survive? I'm not suggesting that an of this is right... just speculating.

3 RepliesReally like your post. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. For me Rasputin and the war minds are one of the most intriguing things in the game lore wise. Bungie has so much damn story potential they can go with. Hope they execute wisely. I guess one of the benefits to destiny having such a sparse story is they can go anywhere from here. I feel weird saying that after all this time. They just need to do it well. Time will tell! Again, good post 👍🏻
