He does........buy an exotic piece of armor from him, burn some motes of light to fully unlock its perks and dismantle it....you'll get two or three exotic shards for 13 strange coins....one less coin for the cost of two shards in year one.

You get more than one exotic shard for dismantling a fully upgraded Exotic? I've not once seen that happen, but I'll test the theory tomorrow. Regardless, one shard for seven strange coins sounds perfectly reasonable, and while your method does sound promising, not everybody has tons of Motes to burn in order to farm shards this way. I believe that merely having the option to straight up purchase Exotic shards would make infusing this stuff a whole lot simpler.

When you level up an exotic, make sure it's a weapon and most importantly, equip a class item with a focus for that particular weapon type. You spend fewer motes...

True a lot of people don't have that many motes, I just like when I get two shards for spending 13 coins and a bunch of motes. And for sure there's no reason he can't sell them, just another way bungie increases grind and limits progress. Especially now that we need them for infusion more than ever Just offering an alternative for no other way of getting shards

I have yet to get 2 exotic shards from dismantling another exotic. It doesn't work
