I have been a fan of Ghostbusters since I was four (28 years). I got really excited when I saw that a new movie was coming out. Even more excited when I heard there would be a new cast. Don't get me wrong. I love the original cast. Venkman, Stanz, Spangler, and Zeddimore will always occupy a special place in my heart. I was excited for a new cast because that meant that the Ghostbusters as a business was succeeding. It meant they were hiring and that anyone could be a Ghostbuster. My number one disappointment with the film is that it was not a sequel with this set up in mind. The fact that the original characters did not exist in this universe was utterly disheartening. There would have been so much potential in continuing the original franchise's story line with semi local branches of Ghostbusters opening in major cities across the US. Wasted potential for a long running franchise. The next thing I hated was the backlash to the backlash. When the first trailer aired, many people were disappointed and they vocalized it, some more aggressively than others, and yes, a few were sexist. What angers me is that the studio and Feig focused solely on the minority of sexist haters, turning media perception of any criticism against the movie into a battle of the sexes. One film critic wrote in her column that she did not remember people complaining when Batman was remade. Well, that is like comparing apples to potatoes (yes, I know what the real expression is). The last Batman film before Nolan took over was Batman & Robin, widely considered the absolute worst superhero movie of all time. Fans wanted a reboot. Key word: [b][u]WANTED[/u][/b]. A Ghostbusters reboot was not wanted by the fans. Now that is not to say that Nolan's series did not receive backlash. When it was first announced that Heath Ledger would be the new Joker, many (including myself) were not thrilled. No way could the guy from [i]Knight's Tale[/i] and [i]Brokeback Mountain[/i] play the Joker. WB heard those complaints, and they did not attack the fans, they addressed their concern by releasing a teaser that was strictly audio and ended with Joker saying, "Starting tonight, people will die. I'm a man of my word." Then the laugh. There was virtually no more criticism of Ledger in the role after that. Sony did not address the criticism to Ghostbusters. They instead went on the offensive and went out of their way to alienate the fans of the franchise they wanted to reboot. The thing is though, you have to win those fans over first. Nolan's take on Batman did so well because of that reason. The fans loved it and they took care of the advertising for WB. Maybe Sony will learn their lesson, but somehow, I doubt it. I apologize for the wall of text. If I put down the entire list of reasons I hated this movie, I could crash the servers.

I haven't seen the new ghostbusters movie nor do I want to. It looks terrible from the trailers.

I mean the problem with any movie like this is you need someone who wants to tell a story. If you just pay someone to make something they don't care about, it's more than likely going to be really bad. Personally I'm excited about this Ben Affleck directed "Batman" film simply because you got one of the best directors in Hollywood who also cares about the character and has made great movies in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if he creates the best bat man film of all time.

I'm pissed that they did a reboot with all female characters, it was unnecessary and obviously promoting feminism which is also unnecessary because women have equal rights and 3rd wave feminism caused that movement to go to shit (suck it anomaly). But that shouldn't keep each side back in doing something. They should have it that a female jumps into the male dominated world of ghost busting. And have the female adds something to the team. The men are divided, one thinks that women can't do a good job another is a shy nerd who never spent that much time with woman who wasn't his mother with. Another would just be overlyconfident and try and hit on her and one that doesn't give a shit about her being a woman, or anything really. All with sides that doesn't demonise them. To add a spin they should have added a competitor. They did it with a black guy in the first and they could now use a woman card.

What annoys me about it is that they have an all female cast for "political correctness in the media" yet the only black character has been made as a stereotype. Even as one of her jokes she says "I don't know if it's a woman thing or a black thing I'm mad." Some serious hypocrisy involved.

I see this as the left showing its true colors. They may oppose big businesses, but like all beings, succumb to avarice. This film was a shameless cash grab. In addition, the conspicuous amount of blatant female supremacist themes only buried this film even further than the crude and unfunny humor, bad writing, and flat acting.
