Based Off of Lore, Who Would Win? LOOK AT THE EDIT

The Hive

333

The Vex

1093

Neither; it would be a paradoxical war which would be ongoing forever unless one side quit fighting

393

Who would win in a war: the Hive or the Vex? The Hive have the Sword Logic, the Taken, and the Worms on their sides, the Logic letting them become gods or "more of gods than they were originally" with each ultra powerful deity slain ((which many Vex could be considered as)), the Taken infecting anything and bending it to Oryx's Will, and the Worms apparently granting them immortality. Though the Hive have a foil and an anti-foil: The Hive's foil is that they may have to resort to slaying powerful deities within their own ranks if the Vex they face do not meet the victim standard for the Sword Logic, and the Taken could be disabled if Oryx is killed. The Hive's anti-foil is that the Vex have the ability to infinitely respawn themselves, which means infinite fuel for the Sword Logic and becoming indefinitely more powerful than the Vex. The Vex have assimilation, dimensional travel, and inter-dimensional communication on their side, assimilation allowing them to copy virtually anything that is not paracausal they see as useful additions to their own ranks and worlds ((prime targets of assimilation would be Hive beings like Oryx and Hive places like throne-worlds)), the dimensional travel enabling them to spawn any version of any Vex being from any timeline/dimension into another, and the inter-dimensional communication allowing them to call upon whoever they need within their ranks summoned into whichever dimension. Though the Vex have a foil and an anti-foil: The Vex's foil is that if they don't call the right shots against an unexpected action made by the Hive, they could be eternally doomed across all dimensions. The Vex's anti-foil is that they can use their inter-dimensional communication to supposedly know every course of action that would naturally be made by the Hive, this letting the Vex virtually call all the right shots against Hive unsupported by any foreign species/legion unfamiliar to their ranks. Feel free to let me know if I put down any wrong info on either team! EDIT: All deities of the Hive and Vex are still alive. Pretend there were never any other factions; only those two.

  • The Vex could go back in time to kill the hive before they were the hive. But then they wouldn't exist because crota is the reason there here so if they did that then they seal their own fate.

  • Randle the VANDLE would come in with Hank the shank and Greg the dreg and they would look into the souls of the vex and hive and their souls pull disintegrate causing every living vex and hive in the war to spontaneously combust until on Randal Greg and Hank survive therefore ending the war.

    • The Vex couldn't understand the Sword Logic, so they created an Axis Mind to try and simulate it. After they infiltrated Oryx's throne world, Oryx easily slaughtered them and then sent Crota to finish them off, to teach him a lesson. The vex discovered the sword logic when they found Oryx's throne world, and they tried to make an Axis mind to simulate it. It didn't work though, and Oryx ended up subduing it, and treating it like a commodity. He thought it was entertaining how the Vex tried to copy the Hive's power. The Vex cannot simulate three things. Light, Darkness, and Warminds. This is why they cannot simply defeat Rasputin. Why they worship the Heart of the Black Garden instead of controlling it. And why guardians can hurt them with light. My vote is for the Hive. Even now that Oryx is dead, a new hive deity will most likely take his place as King, and inherit the knowledge and powers Oryx left behind.

      • Books of Sorrow tells all but one thing. Yes, Oryx slayed the Vex. But the Vex attacked his homeplace, the Dreadnaught. If it would be the other way round, who knows what the outcome will be?

      • Why is the favor to the Vex? Yes I know they have a system spreading through the universe, time travel, communication forward and backward through time, inter dimensional communication and computation and inter dimensional travel, hive minds the size of star systems designed to simulate every outcome of everything that could ever happen, but they can't simulate Oryx and his symbiotic worm. Even after Crota let the hive into Oryx's throne world and they deduced the sword logic, even creating a Vex Axis Mind designed to work in the ways of the Sword Logic (Quria(which should be able to understand how the worms and Hive work)). Quria was only able to simulate Aurash, Oryx's Proto-Hive form. And anyways Oryx steamrolled the Vex out of his throne world after tossing Crota into the Vex Gate Network as punishment for letting the Vex into the throne world and to wreak havoc on the Vex. And if you didn't get all this then go and read the Books of Sorrow (Dreadnaught-The End of Failed Timeline).

        • In the Paradox mission secret line, Praedyth mentions the Vex for seeing their own downfall and being perplexed by that possibility. As you venture further through the Vault, you learn that he's not referring to you, but the Taken. Since the Taken are under the "control" of the hive, that would pretty easily assure their victory in canon lore.

As much as I hate to say it; the hive. As of now, everything we've seen of the vex, their tactics, and basic hierarchy has been inspired, or down right copied from the hive. And who could blame them? One of the greatest axis minds, quria, attempted to best oryx. But it couldn't even simulate him. All it could do was see how oryx came into existence. How they were so paracausal. And with said information; it passed it to those vex who found the black heart, and atheon (and in another reality, the vault). Thus, leading to the creations of sekrion, the undying mind, and the restorative mind. As well as the vault of glass via atheon (and in another reality; atheon was fabricated via the vault) The Praetorians, the Oracles, the gorgons, the Sol progeny, the undying mind, theyosion, the Templar, quodron, and atheon (the vault), and their other ontological weapons were all built as countermeasures to the power that took quria. And yet (and granted; our meddling had apart to it) they were still Ill prepared to defeat them. You see; when we re-enter the vault to attempt and rescue praedyth; the vex are not in their residual defensive protocol. And why is this? Not because we weren't seen as a threat. But rather; we could be used as a mediator to defeat the taken within. The vex; for as powerful as they are, cannot defeat the sword logic. Even we guardians are incapable of it. To kill crota, and oryx, and all their underlings; we had to utilize it. As toland said: "even light must bend to sword logic" Hell just look to Osiris' 47th vision: The first comes in a shadow.  A window becomes a door.  An ebb becomes a gulf.  The second comes in bones.  Tithes offering feasts, carrying laws.  A path torn, minds shattered.  The third does not come alone. It cannot. Our truths woven into their being, desires beyond our own.  The first needs the second to fail, the third needs the first to succeed. The second will never cease, yet the first always prevails. The third is born of all outcomes. Unless, all ends flow from the same pit. We are the first The hive are the second The vex are the third. As it stands; they cannot defeat sword logic. Nothing can really.

          • Guys, you know that destroying the Hive in their original form in a dimension where the Hive haven't met the Worms yet wouldn't destroy them in every single other dimension, right? Because being destroyed in a single dimension has no effect on the others unless there is a sort of link between a lifeform in one dimension and all the rest, like the Vex do. Time is relative; "time-traveling" is another phrase for going from one dimension to the next. Since there's an infinite amount of dimensions, the Hive will always be there. If the Vex hadn't possessed dimensional travel and a Collective Mind, then this whole dimension dilemma wouldn't happen.

                • The vex would build their way to victory, since they are primary architects. They only fight when they have to and even then it is still with their building tools. The hive don't seem to colonize other than taking a war moon or two, so they don't have the nearly infinite civilization of the vex. The only thing the hive has going for them is the power of the worm gods and death singers. They would be fighting a defensive war because no matter how many vex they kill, reinforcements can be pulled from any galaxy and alternate universe. Sure the hive has some dimensional cross ability and throne worlds, but the vex practically live between dimensions.

I would have to go with infinite war. I'm going to say that if I had to pick a winner I'd go hive because one of the vexes main advantage is the ability to run millions of simulations of possible outcomes but just like the guardians Oryx is paracausal, meaning that he is his own reason for existing, and cannot be simulated by the vex minds meaning that they don't know what could happen. One their two largest advantages is gone (the other being the ability to time travel). This is the reason that Oryx originally beat the vex when they invaded his throne world. The only reason the we, the guardians, were able to beat him is that we are as I mentioned earlier also paracausal. In short, almost nothing that obeys the laws of causality can defeat Oryx. EDIT: Oryx being paracausal means that destroying any past instance of Oryx, Auryx, or Aurash would not destroy present day Oryx. Since present day Oryx is his own reason for existing.

                • Damn. . That's a rough one.. I'd have decide on vex....? From the information you gave it would seem the vex have the upper hand. They have greatly advanced technology, can travel through dimensions and such, and the only thing going for the hive is there sword logic and worm gods...
