I have been doing a lot of planning on spray painting my stratocaster (electric guitar) and I want a little advice. I want it to look similar to the pic I posted.
Here's what I know to do
-take apart guitar
-sand body until wood is seen
-apply primer
-wait a few minutes
-paint it white
-wait overnight
-cover with painters tape (of varying wideness)
-paint blue over tape
-carefully remove tape
-sand with high grit sandpaper for smoothness
Am I missing anything?
UPDATE!: got all the paint n such
-clear aerosol lacquer
-wood filler
-primer
-paint obviously

You should be grateful for what you have.

Why would you want to ruin something as beautiful as a Stratocaster? You should be ashamed of yourself.

Edited by Woupsea: 7/21/2016 7:54:15 PMI don't know much about guitars, but painting it by hand would look much nicer than using spray paint.

Edited by Æsir: 7/21/2016 8:19:20 AMYou probably want to seal it with polyurethane or nitrocellulose. That will protect it and stop any paint seams lifting. If you want I high gloss finish you can then wet sand it with 2000grit paper and then polish it up. But note that the thicker the finish the more it will effect your tone. Here are some I've painted.

When I repainted one of my guitars, I went to Auto Zone and got some automotive spray paint. It looks pretty nice. One thing should've done is coated it with polyurethane or something cuz the paint is starting to fade in some places. Not horrible, as it gives it a rustic quality and the tone is great. But just a little would've been a good idea.

sevenstring.org's luthier section should have some helpful info, a lot more helpful than what you're bound to find on here.
