Currently Sunsingers are almost unplayable. If I'm not mistaken anything hit by a burn effect takes [i]less[/i] damage from other sources while burning. This can be avoided by using Fusion grenades but anything hit with your charged melee is going to burn regardless of perks.
Even assuming it's not bugged:
- Viking Funeral debuff effect is weak even when triple stacked, and only lasts a few seconds tops
- burn damage is 4 per tick, netting a total of ~20 damage
- Firebolt has no use anymore. It's simply a weak grenade and even easier to dodge now.
- Solar grenades are 100% worthless without exotic assistance from Sunbreakers, and even then ticks of 4 aren't compelling enough to deter players. People run through them willy nilly. Try that with Lightning or Tripmine.
So in summary:
- Only grenade is sticky
- Only viable middle column perk is to make our useless super last longer
- Only end column perk is an extra sticky
- Only Super perk is buff for teammates
- Only melee is [b]still[/b] overshield, but with delay only helps half the time
What do we have left? What on Earth is this subclass good for? It is now awful in PvP and PvE alike.
The fact that (to my recollection) Bungie hasn't mentioned that the burn is bugged is deeply distressing as that implies it's working as they intended, ergo completely ineffectual. I need to know if a fix is coming or if as it stands Sunsinger is dead.
Edit: Someone linked me to a post where just a few days ago Cozmo acknowledges that the burn damage is indeed bugged and being investigated. There is hope yet.

It's broken and bugged. I feel the same distress you do. The fact they won't acknowledge it makes me doubt the leadership or care for the players and game. It's not what they did it's how they handled it. There is more bugs and flaws than you mentioned but here is what I do. Fusion/burst/brimstone/Radiant Skin/sunburst/gift of sun Depending on game mode I adjust but this is pretty much it. Gear I use Claws with melee charge. And a melee relic for orbs. Full armor regeneration for most things and 3/5/3 tier build. I have about 6 shotguns types and switch for occasion. Now when you see red on radar throw fusion grenade. I try and save one incase I'm losing an exchange and trade. I just shotgun then melee everything that moves. I make orbs for allies and enemies try to stay away. Once they get stickied and rushed they start to back away when they see me. I try to ambush them at doorways or double jump around a corner and attack down. Super melee makes 2 orbs and I can tank very well. Very different but we don't have many choices. I am a noob for sure but add me and we can play doubles =) I have a Montage (Old vs New) it shows more. This is early learning shotgun charge. I am pretty good now =)
