Why are people from Europe so unfriendly?

So I went to Europe not to long ago and literally before I even talked to someone they would know that I was American. I eventually asked them how they knew I was American without even hearing my accent and they said that they would just see that I was smiling and that I looked friendly then they assumed that I was American. Also, almost everyone there weren't necessarily mean but they were by no means nice. I guess being nice is just an American thing

I have noticed with Brits specifically that they tend to be really snarky and blunt with the way they talk. Not even trying to be dicks, it just seems to be a part of their culture and how they regularly speak to each other. It's just odd to an American because if we speak to each other that way, we see it as a direct insult. As if the person is trying to start shit with us. And then fights happen.. Gotta love cultural differences, eh?

Ha, making things up is fun! I went to Europe a while ago and everyone was like "hey, you're an Aussie aren't you?". When I queried how they knew they always replied with the same thing "because of that massive bulge in the front of your pants". I guess having a big dick is just an Australian thing.

Nah I find white people to be very rude. I'm talking like a pure American/Canadian white person. In Canada, lots of these "white trash" people are very uncultured. I've tried to date them before, I always tell them im Hungarian from Hungary and I've always been asked "where is that?" Or "I have never heard of Hungary" they assume since I'm European I'm either weird, or eat strange food. Yes it's true our food isn't grilled cheese sandwiches or a piece of Turkey with mayo on bread, so I guess it's weird to them.

    • There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures...... and the Dutch.

      • I disagree. When I went to Europe last year most everyone I met was relatively nice. There were a few exceptions (The Parisians mainly), but most people were nice enough. Thing is though, it helps to be somewhat cultured.

With the things that have happened recently people are depressed. Particularity in France. Yet many are scared of what will happen if we go to war with those damaging us. The last two times Europe went to war it didnt work out well for us and the rest of the world. Come to rural England we dont do much so hearing nice things about the rest of the world is nice. Plus we smile.

It's cause they believe they are better then Americans(and the other Europeans, but they all agree they are superior to americans). In my life i have found most Americans less full of them selves then most Europeans.(I am not American) It's ironic cause they feel so superior cause "Those stupid Americans are so arrogant, and rude." While they are usually twice as bad

          • Americans are not very well liked around the world. You might want to question the actions of your government. Personally, I take every individual at their merits, regardless of who they are, or where they come from. Treat me with respect, and I will treat you with equally.

          • In Slovenia we envision the typical american as an opportunistic capitalist that likes to slime in with people. We are pretty much atheists in Slovenia. As such, we look at religious people as delusional morons and don't even want to hear them out, let alone hang out with them. What I'm trying to say is that we aren't as tolerable as multicultural Murica.

            • Lived in Italy for two years, funny part is they same the same shit about us as Americans. I recall being at a strip club in Italy and one of the dancers said that Americans were savage Neanderthals incapable of being civil. I simply laughed and replied with "dance monkey!!!dance for your dollar/euro" I'm guessing I proved her right but -blam!- her lol.

You're just basing your opinion off of how a small group acts. Obviously not all Europeans are like that.

              • Well france is starting to become a little xenophobic from what I've seen. That la pen guy is starting to get some momentum. Also to be fair, American levels of friendliness is seen as too invasive in many european countries due to traditions of stocism from the colonial age. It used to be that you were expected to show little emotion in public and place logic and duty above your feelings. Of course society has moved on, but Europeans are more likely to be a little intoverted as a result, and therefore perhaps feel as though ultra friendly people are being invaisive of privacy.
one thing I've personally noticed from Americans, is a lot are also very loud without trying to be. Maybe that could also contribute.
