  • There's a veritable litany of reasons. 1) Rey seems to have some form of Force Postcognition (see what happens the first time she touches Anakin's Lightsaber). It seems like she took that to a further extreme and either rapidly assimilated or simply began duplicating the abilities of the past users when she rallied 2) Kylo was fighting at not even 50% of capacity. He had taken a bowcaster shot to the side, which CLEARLY did some major damage. He had been exsanguinating for the duration of his pursuit plus his duel with Finn, and had exacerbated it by punching his wound. He then took a grazing hit to his sword arm from Finn. So he's lost a lot of blood, he's got a badly injured sword arm, and his opponent is relatively fresh. To say nothing of the emotional trauma he's facing at the same time. 3) He's not fighting with the intent to kill Rey. He's fascinated by her, and either wants to corrupt her or sees her as his way out. So he's holding back, trying to disarm and incapacitate, not kill.

  • While these reasons are true, the fact that they removed midichlorians from the lore is just wrong. Anakin had the highest count, and he still had to go through years and years of training.

  • Midichlorians are still Canon. They appeared in Ep. 1, so they still are canon. BUT that simply implies potential limits. Essentially, how much power someone COULD crank out, not necessarily their actual innate talent. It could also be that the Force innately shows itself differently through different individuals. Anakin had an innate mastery of mechanical and operational skill from a very early age, while Rey seems to have a form of postcognition, which translates to other skills. She touches something, she sees snippets of its past, she can appropriate that knowledge. And in regards to her having pulled off a couple of classic Force powers, remember. She grew up on tales of the old Jedi Order. She may have simply attempted to do the same as she once heard they could, and somehow, some way, managed it. Imagine trying to...say... scale a wall a la Assassins Creed. You happen to be just athletic enough to make it work that one time, but you just got lucky.

  • Really? I heard Disney removed them completely. While they do only imply potential power, they do give us a general representation of capabilities. The gift of being adept in mechanical engineering does not have any force ties, and the fact that she could so easily connect with the living force in order to have post cognitive relations is something I don't understand, because in order to connect with said aspect of the force, you require training and application. She grew up on tales of the Old Jedi Order, but I do not think that even so, the concentration and focus was represented in the stories to be executed in the situation.

  • 1) They removed the bizzare expanded lore on them beyond "These are the things which are a mark of the Force". Because EU stuff about them was WEIRD. 2) Capability and power are not he same thing. Raw power is one thing, while talent and control are another entirely. Anakin was blessed with a great deal of power but lacked real focus or control. Essentially, he was throwing buckets of water, but had a lot more to work with. 3) Remember, Rey has never been tested. We don't know what she might be able to do with being fully trained. 4) Actually, Anakin's skill in both mechanical and piloting aptitude is a Force discipline known as Mechu-Deru. Thus why he could cobble together a fully functioning, high-performance protocol droid out of spare parts, and why he could pilot a podracer at the age of 10, with NO training or practice. 5) Rey's power may not be something innately learned, so much as an ingrained part of her. Essentially, a mutation of the Force that, even without actual training, she can use if an item in question has a strong enough residual imprint (Millenium Falcon, Anakin/Luke's Lightsaber, etc). With training, she might be able to use it consciously, and on objects or places with less residual, but she would always have the power. 6) In theory, neither of her applications was on something especially difficult. She mind tricked a Stormtrooper, who aren't especially strong-willed (especially since FO Stormtroopers have been indoctrinated since birth practically), and pulled an inanimate object. If tales are specific enough, they can give enough of a gist to make it possible. IE "Jedi could, through the Force, cloud the minds of the weak, and, with simple, clear command, compel them to act." And "Were a Jedi ever disarmed, they could call their Lightsaber back through force of will alone"

  • There's not of reasons why Rey won. Mainly because he just got shot in the gut with a frikin bow caster which had killed everyone it hit prior...
