Looks like it, but I can't say. They fired at the New Republic's capital planets, but was Coruscant a New Republic capital? Someone help here.
-
Go look at the other comments. I think the u will answer the stuff.
-
No, but croissant was.
-
No, thankfully.
-
I mean, that would be the best way to kill a lot of senators and make a big scene. Also most of the government is based there so if you wanted to make a power vaccum corusant would be the planet to destroy.
-
You see, in order to help bring balance to a new government (the republic was just coming under reconstruction), elections for offices were being held on various worlds. The planet that LOOKED like Coruscant was just where one of said elections was.
-
Coruscant was taken over by the empire...
-
Actually, the New Republic isn't based off of Coruscant. Most likely to signify their difference from the Empire. Plus, to the First Order, I think that would be sacrosanct, being the birthplace of the Galactic Empire.
-
Huh. Well it'd still make a scene as there's probably more than a few billion life forms and droids loving there.
-
True, but like I said, they value the planet and its significance WAY too highly. It'd be asking a Christian to blow up the Vatican. Plus, it wasn't just about making a scene. They were aiming to cripple the Republic. Taking out the Hosnian system racked up probably a similar kill count, plus took out the Republic senate, most of the main fleet, and probably a good deal of important military infrastructure, as well.
-
No. No it wasn't.

Yeah, it did look a bit like Coruscant. Maybe some generic city-like planet.
