She could be the Traveler or from the Traveler, although I don't think so. The good news is that the Stranger is one of the few plot points they bothered putting into the original Destiny so I'm pretty sure we're eventually going to find out who she is. But we don't know yet. When she says "I was not forged in Light," I think she means she was never a Guardian and did not receive Light from the Traveler, not that she herself was born in the Darkness. My interpretation is that she saw other things that were born out in the darkness. No theory seems more likely than not, but there are theories that are more likely than others. My favorite is that the Stranger is Maya Sundaresh. She was a scientist from the Ishtar Collective who helped create what were possibly the first exos with copies of her teams' own consciousnesses and also likely founded the Future War Cult (see Ghost Fragment: Vex 1-5). She spent her whole life studying the Vex and--if she founded the Future War Cult--attempting to look into the future(s?) which may explain why/how she possesses a gun with parts that shouldn't exist yet. If grimoire card Rasputin 4 is Rasputin addressing the Stranger (the passage, "you’re certainly not MINE although once you must have been," seems to imply Rasputin is addressing an Exo) she can also step through time which is a trait of the Vex or possibly someone who figured out how they do it (like a scientist who spent their original lifetime studying the Vex and many more as a consciousness inside of an Exo). If it's Maya, the Stranger was around pre-collapse and either through Future War Cult rituals looking into the future(s?) or from stepping through time some other way she has seen things no one else has. Like terrible things born out in the Darkness.

  • (This will be long) My question is how does the ghost know they shouldn't exist "yet"? That's implying that the ghost knows the parts will exist later on, but how could he know that? If the parts don't exist during the time you find them then he would say they don't exist. But it's almost like he knows the stranger... For example, when he was getting a signal on the moon that was from the "speaker" but was actually from the stranger, wouldn't he be able to tell the difference between a signal coming from Venus and earth? My theory is he is attempting to hide the fact he knows her. Anyway, this theory about parts not existing yet could tie into the theory that the vex and traveler are the same thing. For those of you who don't know the theory goes that the traveler uses the vex to create universes, and then the traveler goes to that new universe and causes "collapses" and then helps the humans so they think it's their savior. But really the traveler is sucking the power from the guardians worshipping it and becomes more powerful. Once there is no more power, it creates a new universe with the vex and destroys the old one. My theory is the ghost is from the traveler so it has seen that the strangers rifle will eventually exist, thus him saying the parts shouldn't exist yet. But i don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. It's a pretty crazy theory but it would make sense about the ghost saying yet like he knows it will exist eventually. Tell me what you think

  • I think there are many possible and reasonable explanations for how someone could know something is made from parts that shouldn't exist yet. If I saw someone shooting a gun that fired balls of glowing energy or riding a board that actually hovered off the ground I might assume it's from the future and uses technology we "shouldn't" have yet. Of course, in that situation it's more likely that it was developed in secret and I just didn't know about it but a Ghost that is given access to as much information as possible and has been searching the Earth for you for centuries probably has a very very good idea of what technology is available to humanity and what isn't. To be honest our Ghost is a lot smarter than us and I think it's reasonable that it would be able to understand a strange gun well enough to conclude that it was created with technology not available at this point in history, but possibly (in fact probably) in the future. And since its analysis of the gun comes after our many encounters with the Vex our Ghost suspects like we do that there exist entities that can step across time opening up this possibility even more. That doesn't mean you're wrong. I had never given thought to the fact that the Ghost wasn't able to determine who the caller was when the Stranger contacted us on the Moon or that it guessed when first contacted that it might be the Speaker. It's possible our Ghost was acting like it didn't know the Stranger for some reason although I think it's more likely it wasn't. It's also very possible the Vex are directly connected to the Traveler and/or that the Stranger is as well. I don't know who the Stranger is, what the Traveler is, or where the Vex came from. So I don't mean to discourage your theories, they are certainly possible. I just wanted to share my thoughts too.

  • Also to add on to my theory, the ghost later says that the stranger contacted you from Venus. If it was that easy to tell where it was from, then why would he say it's from the speaker of its clearly coming from Venus?

My best guess (and it is a guess) is that even for our Ghost if a transmission doesn't include Caller ID information (or unfamiliar information) it takes time to figure out where it's coming from. You know how in spy movies they try to keep the guy talking for as long as possible so they have time to trace the call back to its source? I think that's what our Ghost was doing. Our Ghost can work a lot faster than the technology in spy movies but they did have the luxury of being able to assume the transmission was at least coming from the same planet. Our Ghost has to consider that it might be coming from a number of planets, moons, and asteroids and some are millions of miles away which makes it harder. Our Ghost tells us it's getting broken coordinates, from Venus, Ishtar Region at the end of the call. This to me sounds like what someone would say if they were tracing a call back to its source but didn't have quite enough time to pinpoint it. Just prior to this our Ghost tells us he is receiving an emergency transmission from the Speaker regarding the Hive ritual draining the Traveler of its Light on ALL channels. When the Stranger calls us our Ghost says, "Someone's trying to establish contact. Could be the Speaker." To me it seems like a reasonable and logical guess that the person trying to contact us is the Speaker as we know he is desperately trying to get Guardians to stop the Hive ritual. We know he might want to contact us and to our knowledge at the time, no one else has reason to try and call us. However, that doesn't mean you're wrong. The Ghost might have known better, might know the Stranger, and might be trying to hide this knowledge. I don't think so but it is possible.
